Muscat, Sep 26: The Preliminary Rounds for the “Gulf Voice of Mangalore” competition organized by Youth Recreation Center – Rising Stars, Kuwait were held at Muscat on 26th September 2008 at the main hall of Sts. Peter and Paul Church Ruwi. The Muscat organizers, the Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish (MCCP – Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi), combined the event with their Annual Singing Competition 2008 for Children. The program was indeed brilliantly managed competition to match the usual reputation of MCCP. All the contestants, specially teenage children, had shown a great ability of singing and fluency in Konkani language.

The three distinguished judges for the competitions were specially flown from the United Arab Emirates. All of them are multi-talented musicians and well known singers of Dubai Konkani community having thorough knowledge of Konkani Music. The two judges - twins sisters with mesmerizing golden voice from Puttur Parish currently residing in Dubai with tremendous contribution to the Konkani Music and art were Olivia Rodrigues and Olinda Goveas. The third judge was Lancy Madtha, managing director of Integrated Freight & Logistics LLC, well-known community activist of Dubai Konkani community and the member of St. Mary’s Choir, Dubai.
Program started at 12.00 noon with a warm welcome address by Hilda Rasquinha. Fr. Albert D Silva, OFM Cap, the assistant Parish Priest of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi offered prayers seeking heavenly blessings on the program and declared the opening of the competition. Clarence Pinto, President of MCCP and Samuel D’ Silva, Main Coordinator of Sports and Finance Committees were also present on the stage during this ceremony.
Victor Baptist Pais introduced the judges to the audience and Sunil Mascarenhas, cultural secretary of MCCP presented the rules. The master of ceremony of the program was Hilda Rasquinha. Vote of thanks was proposed by Alex Aranha, Internal Auditor of MCCP.
Prize distribution ceremony for the singing competition along with the recently held Drawing Competition was conducted by Hazel Dias, Arun D Souza and Dolly Sequeira. C. K. Anchan, Vice President of Towell Take Solutions and strong supporter of MCCP, Ligory D’ Mello – Managing Director of Technofit Trading LLC, Harold Rasquinha – composer and singer of the Konkani community and Dr. Christopher Dias did the honors of presenting the trophies and certificates to the winners.
Renowned Konkani Composer and Musician of Muscat Konkani community Apolinaris D Souza presented mementos to Lancy Madtha, Olivia Rodrigues and Olinda Goveas. Nirmala Goveas and Samuel D Silva were present during this ceremony.
Hazel Dias, Samuel D’ Silva and Sunil Mascarenhas along with Hilda Rasquinha and Victor Baptist Pais guided and supervised the program. They were supported by Donald Fernandes, Alex Aranha, Arun D’ Souza, Dolly Sequeira, Lancy Lobo, Shalet Noronha, Lancy Sequeira, Clifford Castelino, Sharmila D’ Silva, Irene Fernandes, Eula Pinto and Suraj Rebello.
