Mangalore, Sep 28: The Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yedyurappa attended an event organized by the All India Billawa Association (R) to mark the 154th birth anniversary celebrations  of Shree Narayan Guru here at the Town hall on Sunday, Sep 28, 2008

The officially recognized representatives of the  Billawa community in Dubai, Billawa Balaga Dubai and its ladies' wing members were  also invited to join the event.

Naveenchandra Suvarna, President of Akila Bharat Billawa Union is the main architect behind organizing this event.

Along with the  CM, Home Minister V.S. Acharya, Minister Krishna Palemar, MP and state BJP president Sadanand Gowda, Suresh Poojary, Dubai Billawa Mahila president Geetha Suvarna from Billawa Balaga Dubai and others were present on the dais.

As announced earlier on daijiworld ,  Billawa Balaga Dubai handed over a cheque to Poovamma, who represented  India in the  Relay team at the China Olympics. Since Poovamma could not attend due to her training commitment  her parents accepted the cheque on her behalf.

It can be recalled that, diajiworld.com had  published an investigative report on the  pathetic conditions of the Mangala Stadium, and the dire need of  a Synthetic track in the stadium.  Following the report, the  local administration  took serious note on this issue.  Billawa Balaga Dubai also  requested  Naveen Suvarna  to push the government for grant of Rs 3 crore to the stadium. Upon the request of Naveen Suvarna, CM Yedyurappa granted the required fund  Rs 3 Crores. This was  announced by him during his address.

Poovamma's coach Dinesh Kunder was largely  instrumental in fighting for the cause of upgrading the  Mangala Stadium.

During his address, the  CM also  announced the sanctioning of  land at Kunjatubail and a 2 crore fund  for the Billawa ladies hostel.

The CM also declared that the interest  rate for Toddy tappers loan will be reduced from 12% to 6%. As toddy tapping is restricted, he sanctioned a compensation of 1 lakh each to the affected families.

The CM  also  announced a new scheme called Bagya Laxmi scheme. For every girl child born,  she will get a free insurance of Rs 20,000/- which can be realized when she reaches   18 years of age.

Billawa Balaga Dubai felicitated  the CM .  The  General Secretary Ashwin Salian handed over the 10th Anniversary Souvenir to  the CM and all the guests.   A cheque of Rs 30,000/-  was also handed over for a medical treatment by Billawa Balaga Dubai.

The Town hall was jam packed  with Billawa community members representating from  all over India and abroad.

Suchith Kumar, a member of Billawa Balaga Dubai and secretary of All India Billawar Association told  daijiworld that  Billawa Balaga Dubai has been doing yeoman service to the community and is always ready to help the  poor and recognize the community achievers.

The CM had enough time to sanction land to Billawa community but it is an act of shame on his part that he did not have time to visit the churches damaged by hooligans on Sept 14th. He even did not have the moral to meet those people, nuns, women and youth who were mercilessly beaten by his police. Even he did not have the courage to meet the Bishop of M'lore.

Good job by Akila Bharat Billawa Union and Billawa Balaga Dubai. You have done good for the community and society as well. Thanks to Daijiworld for your article on Mangala Stadium too. We do remember the numerous comments that came over in Daijiworld over Janardhan Poojary's recomendation for liquor. So his absence should not be taken seriously and we should all look forward to services done for noble causes. Daijiworld is also doing a great job on highlighting concerns and driving good social organisations to work on the same.keep it up

Good grants from CM but he should also extend this to other commnities at south kanara, they are not in much of population, they dont have political support or they dont have influence over politics, thus neglected by the political party their demands are not met, infortunately they are not comes under SC, ST or FORWARD CLASS.

It is surprise that organizers have missed Mr.Janardhana Poojari. He is the man who made proud of Poojari community and made Poojari's put their surname after their names. Previously only shetty's to put their surnames. How they can ignore such a person who made the community to grow richer by financially, educationally and moreover by names.

Congrats Billawa Balaga ! Once in a while comes someone who does something good for the community and the country at large. The recent efforts by the Billawa Balaga to get the CM sanction various grants and funds for social projects in Mangalore is noteworthy indeed. Especially, the grant of Rs.3 crores to uplift the Mangala Stadium facilities should be utilised in a proper manner and should not be misused. A professional committee consisting of knowledgeable sportsmen and administrators should ensure that the resources are planned out to get the best for the Mangala Stadium.

The nearby educational institutions and sports lovers also will be encouraged to perform better by using the facilities at the stadium. The stadium is pretty old and the new synthetic track apart from other related facilities should see a surge of boys and girls striving not only to improve their fitness but also aim for golden glory at the national level if not more. Comparitively, the Rs.3 crorers grant is a healthy boost for the organisers at the Mangala Stadium who should now look forward to put Mangalore's name on the sports map. We have not many from Mangalore who have turned out for India.

Except for a Poovamma here and a Vandana there, no other big name comes to mind easily. The need of the hour is to encourage promising talent and back them to succeed. Even the well to do companies and industrialists in Mangalore should do their bit and take some of the stars under their belt with their assistance. The results will come slowly and steadily as long as there is support from all sides. One hopes to some hectic action especially at the Mangala Stadium now that the funds have started flowing. Instead of engaging in unwanted criminal and anti social activities, the modern youth should be busy at places like the Mangala Stadium to build a sound and healthy body.

Next time when the CM is around, we should be able to show a champion shining at the international level ! Well done Billawas and thank you CM.
