New Delhi, Jul 10(India Today): As the Supreme Court is all set to hear a number of pleas challenging Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code that criminalises consensual gay sex between two adults, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy today said that India should invest in medical research to see if homosexuality can be cured.
Swamy also opined that homosexuality was not 'normal' and against Hindutva.
"It is not a normal thing. We cannot celebrate it. It's against Hindutva," he told news agency ANI.
"We should invest in medical research to see if it can be cured," Swamy added.
A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra and comprising Justices R F Nariman, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud and Indu Malhotra will hear the pleas today.
The Rajya Sabha MP, however, suggested that a seven or a nine-judge bench must hear the pleas.
