Panaji, Oct 2: Goa’s main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused Nationalist Congress party state unit president Dr Wilfred D’Souza for frauds in his election affidavit and also transfer of land.

BJP leader and leader of opposition Manohar Parrikar briefing presspersons alleged that three properties owned by D’Souza are missing in the affidavits filed during 2004 parliamentary polls and 2007 state legislative assembly elections.

Producing the ownership documents which are in the name of Dr D’Souza, Parrikar said that D’Souza has not mentioned about these properties. The BJP has demanded that D’Souza should be criminally charged for filing false affidavit before the election commission.

Incidentally, D’Souza had lost both the elections fought on NCP symbol.

BJP’s outburst against the NCP Goa unit chief is the fall out of latter’s allegation against BJP legislator Dilip Parulekar for filing false affidavit before the EC. D’Souza, who was defeated by Parulekar in 2007 polls, has filed complaint with EC for excluding a property from the affidavit.

“D’Souza who is 35-year-old in the politics should think about his mistakes before pointing fingers to others. Parulekar will reply to the EC to the allegation leveled against himself. Now it is the time for D’Souza to explain why he lied twice before the EC,” the leader of opposition said.

D’Souza, 80, is a former chief minister and had successfully fought state assembly elections for almost three decades before he was defeated by Parulekar during 2007 assembly polls in Saligao constituency.

Adding to the allegations, Parrikar accused that D’Souza transferred the land in his name merely by filing an affidavit, which is not acceptable as per law.

“When we sought the details of the transfer, we were informed that the file is missing from the government office. We could get the mutation certificate which clearly mentions D’Souza’s name,” Parrikar said.

“The land transfer done under political pressure in 2007 and hence all the officials responsible for the illegality should be suspended,” Parrikar demanded.
