Udupi, Oct 4: A postman is supposed to deliver mails to various residences and establishments. But here’s a postman who was dumping all mail in a cycle shop here.

Vijay Shervegar, resident of Uppur, has been working as a postman in Kallianpur post office for five years. He was dumping all the mails in the cycle shop over the past few months, instead of delivering them to the addressees.

The incident came to light when the vice-president of the Karavali Credit Co-operative Bank didn’t get the letter to attend the bank’s meeting. He got suspicious of the postman and visited the cycle shop. He got his mail on searching inside the cycle shop. The owner of the cycle shop was unaware of the postman’s activities. Shervegar used to frequent the shop to rent a cycle.

A search revealed hundreds of mail inside the cycle shop. Higher officials of the postal department rushed to the spot and have initiated a probe.

Consider the fact that  the postman did not destroy the letters which he could have easily done. His conduct only reflects the failure of his supervisor who never bothered to be aware of his performance under his command. The department as a whole needs to be a little proactive than playing the blame game over the weakest. Its more a departmental failure than an individual conduct.

Poor guy, Before thinking of his punishment, its better to talk to him and understand the problems he is facing. The salary he is getting may not be enough for him to rent a cycle and deliver the letters – GOD PLEASE SAVE INDIAN POSTAL SERVICE.

The Postman might have done the mistake by dumping the mail in Lewis Cycle workshop but how does the owner was not aware since 4 to 5 months when such a thing is going on. No one can believe the Cycle Owner saying he is not aware.

This is a very serious issue & the owner should be arrested first than the Postman. Someone is coming to your shop daily for a Cycle & dumping something in your shop for nearly 4 months & you are saying you are not aware, only a fool can believe this. First take action against the Owner of the shop. I am sure the Cycle Owner was supporting the Postman to do such a thing.

The post man is targetted. Agreed he's been careless and irresponsible with his job, but what about the owner of the cycle shop, could he not have reported the matter to the authorities, did he not notice the posts & letters lying in his shop and why did he not care to take action on that, he too needs to be taken to task for his ignorance...

Dear readers who commented on this poor guy first ask for the dismissal of all the govt employees.every corner of India you will see this.In his case he had to pay the rent for the cycle which he was using. May be his salary is not adequate.First find out his problem and then take the action. Its true that he has done the wrong thing.Do not label everyone as a psychitric case.In our soceity the moment a person commits any major mistake he is labelled as mad!!!then the case is thrown in the dust bin of the court. How will you expect some changes in this corrupted govt employees.

This wise postman might be under the impression what is the use of delivering letters when there are other common modes of communicating like email, WLL, and mobiles being used by every Tom, Dick, and Harry.

Today if you see even beggars carry mobile phones on them. He might have been using his work time to do other part time work and garner some more income.....since if I am not mistaken postmen are paid peanuts in Mangalore!!

Dear all readres, this is not surprise for us from Indian Postal Service, Even my parents send my Degree certificate By Indian Postal as Rgistered post but unfortunately i didnt recieve for that to whom i can blame. Actually fault is ours because we are trusting INDIAN POSTAL SERVICE.

All most 75% of the post men are doing the same, they dont deliver the mail till your door, they will put in some house or in some shop.  You have to check every week or a month, THIS IS HAPPENING.

Hey why everybody are behind this guy yaar..He is following his govt's practices..Even his govt is corrupt,so is he.There is nothing wrong in him doing this..First lets elect a proper govt and then things automatically come to normal. The govt is eating a part of his earnings also so he is doing all that.

Dear Postman(Vijay shervegar),, Do you know much of chaos you have created so far..These letters had to reach people at the desired time..who knows? It could be a family or a mother awaiting for a letter from her son abroad, a graduate awaiting an appointment letter ,a defence perosonnel's could be the last letter ,letter to pensioners,Gratuity ,investments ,property, weddings invitations ,imp functions documents,LIC notifications ,untimely deaths etc etc Now who is going to compensate for this .

This Post man has sniffed something worth earlier ..hence all this mess.I request the authorities to investigate and compensate the citizens who trust post offices .Though literacy levels in emailing is common these days, certain other means of communication like these surely help people residing in towns and villages communicate effectively .With these elements around its heights of employment for a SENTI-MENTAL freak like this .

The Post office in this district should apologise and compensate for the delay so far. This post man should be taught a lesson so his counterparts in other cities too stop this.

My residence is near Kallianpur where the incident has taken place - but the post office is different. The service here also is awfully bad ! Although the Citizen's Charters assures delivery in 2/3 days, my mail is always bunched - 3 to 5 letters received during the week are delivered in one lot.

Also, in r/o magazines, etc., the flaps are opened and delivered after a gap of a week or so. The postal stamp is generally not clear. I made a detailed study, including sending self addressed letters - here also, it took more than a week to receive.

A complaintd to the Customer Service Cell of Udupi Head Post Office has not yielded any result, except an acknowledge- ment. Possibly, in the present case also, the matter would be buried after a few months by which the public would forget.

How can all of you jump to the conclusion that the postman has a Psychiatric problem?Who are we to label another man?Are you Doctors?DO NOT GO AROUND USING THE TERM AS AND WHEN YOU PLEASE.

The postman may have had issues which needed to be addressed by his superiors, and knowing the way things work in India he may have never had a chance. What other way could he get the attention of his superiors.I know what he did was not the right thing to do but atleast now there has been some kind of attention given to him and to his probable causes for his behaviour.

Before you label anyone look closely into your own life and see where and when other people may have labeled you as a psychiatric case.It hurts.I feel such comments on people's mental state should not be published ever.We do not have the right to point a finger at other people when we ourselves are not above reproach. If his superiors had handled his grieveances when he may have tried to present it to them he may never have had to resort to this.He has after all delivered mail for 5 years and it is only now that he has done this.Give him a chance to explain himself before all of you jump on him with your judgements.People are not bad, it is the circumstances that make them behave the way they do.....Think before you sling mud on anothers reputation.

WE NEED TO TALK TO HIM AND FIND OUT WHY IS HE DOING THIS. MAY BE THIS IS HIS WAY OF PROTESTING AGAINST LOW SALARY OR ANY OF HIS GRIEVANCES. OUR LAWMAKERS WAIT TILL, PEOPLE DESTROY GOVT. PROPERTY OR PRIVATE PROPERTY OUT OF FRUSTRATION AND THEN THEY SAY YOU ARE WRONG AND WE WILL PUNISH YOU. BUT SADLY NO ONE WILL TRY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. WE ARE MAKING PEOPLE PSYCHIATRIC AND THEN WE WANT TO PUNISH THEM ALSO!!!!!!!!!?

In US for misappropriating postal letters there could be 20 years of imprisonment. Will this postman get any punishment? In our society looks like there is neither fear nor dharma left. Every body talks India is great, I wonder in what way?

It is atrocious. Public servants are paid by the public money to render service to the public not to dump them in dark corners. Shame on such servants. Dismiss the guy, arrest him and punish him the most exemplary way possible.
