Mangalore: C S I Shanthi Cathedral Celebrates Harvest Festival

Mangalore, Oct 5: C S I Shanthi Cathedral, located in Balmatta in the city, celebrated the harvest festival on Sunday, October 5, for expressing the gratitudes of the community members to the Almighty and also to exult in joy and celebrate the festival.
The harvest festival thanksgiving service was held at 8.30 am. Fr Robinson Barnabas, presbyter in-charge of CSI Unity Church Mulky delivered the message, explaining the importance of the festival.
Various sports and games were organized in the afternoon, by the Harvest Festival Sports and Games Committee. Various competitions, fun-games etc., were conducted for everyone right from the young children, to the senior citizens. Prizes were distributed thereafter, at a function, in which Dr E V S Maben, professor in the department of medicine, A J Institute of Medical sciences took part in the capacity of the chief guest. Dr Roshan Ann Maben, professor in the department of paediatrics in the said hospital, gave away the prizes. Rev I L Soans and Rev S D Aiman, presidents of the Presbyters, Harsha Fredrick, vice president, Kiran Karat, secretary, treasurer Reena Kotian and joint secretary Shaila Kumar were present.
About Shanthi Cathedral: Originally, three missioneries came to Mangalore and settled in a rented house in Mission Street, then known as Nireshwalya, in the city in 1834. In course of time, a new church building was built and consecrated on December 1862 at its present location, known as Bell Mount then. Thereafter, several churches have come up, to accommodate growing number of members living in the city outskirts. Various other churches too came into being in course of time. Under the guidance of the pastorate committee, various activities are being conducted in the churches successfully, like Sunday school, youth get-together, womens get-together etc.
