Karkala, Oct 9: During his visit to Karvalu, Yarlapady near here on Tuesday October 7 for fulfilling a vow to perform religious rituals at the temple in which his ancestors reposed faith, Ravi Shastri opined that India have a fair chance of outplaying Australia in the ensuing test series.
Speaking further, he opined that the Twenty-20 cricket will cast its influence on the limited over cricket. He however, held test as the form of cricket that brings out the real talent in the players.
Shastri opined that the segregation of players as seniors and juniors is improper. Capacity of a player to play should be the only criteria, not their age, for being considered, he opined.
"Australia, devoid of the services of stalwarts like McGrath, Shane Warne and Gilchrist might appear to be a comparatively weaker team. However, when on ground, playing according to the demands of the occasion becomes important. India comparatively, has a balanced side and has good chance of winning," he felt.
Ravi Shastri came to the temple and 'Nagabana' in the village of his ancestors for a specific reason. On June 20, 2007, he had come here following advice by astrologers, accompanied by wife and offered puja here. Even after 18 years of marrying Ritu, the couple did not have a child. Within two months after offering puja here, Ritu conceived, and three months ago, she gave birth to a female child. Ravi came here to fulfill his vow and to share his joy at becoming a father.
Various rituals were conducted under the guidance of Bhageertatha Bhat, Vishnumurthy Bhat etc., at the temple. Shastri honoured temple managing trustee Somashekhar Rao by presenting him with a golden pendant.
Shastri said that his experience after visiting the temple has been spectacular and his family has experienced lot of changes thereafter. "I will come here every year, and the next year I will bring my wife and daughter Alaika. After hearing about the natural environs of the village, my wife has expressed a wish to settle down here," he revealed.
After accepting felicitation and having food, Ravi visited Pavanje Sri Adishakti Subrahmanya temple, before leaving for Bangalore by air in the evening.
