Mangaluru: Non-issuance of door number results in chaos at city corporation session

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 31: The issue of non-issuance of door numbers to new constructions within the city corporation limits gave rise to din in the monthly session of the city corporation council here on Monday July 30, which was presided over by city mayor Bhaskar K.

When BJP corporator, Roopa D Bangera, complained that corporation commissioner is not always available at his office, commissioner, Mohammed Nazeer, termed her claim as irresponsible, adding that records about how much work he does, what meetings he has been attending, how many files he clears every day etc are on the record.

Opposition corporator, Sudheer Shetty, who intervened, pointed out that people who construct houses within the limits of the city corporation with great difficulty are not able to procure door numbers, while people who construct buildings without authorization are able to get several facilities. He urged the city corporation officials not to create problems for at least those people who have built houses up to 1,000 sq ft in five cents land. Leader of the opposition, Premananda Shetty, Vijayakumar Shetty and several other corporators supported this demand.

Premananda Shetty said that when people come to the corporation to get door number under rule 112c, they do not get it. The revenue officials demand for single site agreement letter even for issuing Khata, which is wrong, he stated.

Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer, said that many people misuse provisions under 112c as per which there is permission to get different connections after constructing building without licence, even without following rules like setback, zone confirmation etc. He said that in the city, 7,444 buildings have got door numbers by paying double the tax, which in itself is a concerning issue. He said that temporarily the permission being granted under 112 c would be suspended.

Former mayor Kavitha Sanil stated that there is court approval for clearance of buildings that are constructed by violating parking rules. She expressed resentment about the inaction of officials to implement this order. The officials cited technical problems and problem in partial demolition of buildings. The mayor said that no one should bend under pressure in case of illegal buildings and asked corporators not to interfere during demolition drives of illegal buildings.

Why is the corporation interested in individual residential compounds for broadening the roads ?The main roads are not been broadened because there are no residential compounds but business properties and the corporation gets a good hafta for not touching these properties. In some case there were huge puja's performed before the broadening the main roads and just left there by fooling the public. It is a big joke.

Our MCC is not having enough experienced staff . There is no highly educated staff. Our MCC commissioner also not fit for that post. He is not KAS or I AS. So many loopholes in MCC office.

Agree with you . The MCC staff are either not qualified nor not properly trained. The Commissioner post is either filled with the recommendation of political parties. Every thing is sold and the public are suffering.

Dear Mr. Prabhu, you are right in both your comments. Problem here is Officials are not educated and competent enough to hold such important posts. It is either political push or seniority or reservation quota that qualifies them to hold such key posts.
Individual homes owners run from pillar to pole to get things done, but Apartment promoters, Builders get their job done so quickly with Good will I am told.
At times, these apartments have no proper parking, no completion certificates but have every other facility.
I live just around 02 kms away from MCC, on Bejai New Road end near Muller court - look at apathy of that road, where road is widened you find vehicles parked on both sides of road. Road is not done at various places. WE DO NOT HAVE A DRAINAGE FACILITY FOR LAST 14 YEARS N OUR LETTERS TO MAYOR & COMMISSIONER MUST BE GATHERING DUST IN FILES & WE HAVE GROWN OLDER N GREY. BUT NO DRAINAGE YET.!!

I agree with you. If the buildings are constructed illegally, door number should not be given.

Does MCC says they are illegal? One person has spread a building
2500 sq. ft at least) behind my house after SanghanikethaN. He has got all facilities including Power supply , Water connection, Drainage etc. without owning a single sq.cm of space. I registered a complaint to TPO, Commissioner and at least 10 Government offices of Different departments. All the officers have encouraged it. A suit was filed in the court in 2010. Lawyers are twisting the case despite no records for it.Demand the records from that building owner and take old records of that site. You will come to know, the truth. Even DC office is silent even after giving them evidences.Grease the palms of all the departments . You can do everything.
