Mangaluru, Aug 2: In the recent past, a new breed of beggars is seen moving around the city. Some ladies with coloured hair and decent clothes with neckties can be seen seeking financial help from people.
The team claims to belong to Ranipur in Rajasthan. They usually explain that they have lost everything in their native place on account of floods and have become destitute all of a sudden with no house, clothes, food etc to live on. They move around with Xerox copies of their stories seeking help. They normally choose the places that are frequented by young people and college students.
These groups do not possess any letterheads or permissions given by police. They also do not have any identity proofs to prove what they say.
After a local published video footage of these 'beggars' in his Facebook page, police personnel led these women on Wednesday to Kadri police station where they registered a case and sent them away with a warning.
The person, who posted the above video, Sowraj, claims that several of these ladies have been in the city since the last eight months. They normally alter the amounts mentioned by donors in the list by adding a zero to convince the others to be more liberal. Kadri police said that a case for begging in the city by the women claiming themselves too be flood-affected, was registered and they were given a warning and let off.
