Kundapur, Aug 8: A man, who had the habit of standing by the side of the road, removing his clothes and exhibiting his body whenever women came that way since sometime, was nabbed, tied up, and beaten up by the general public in the town. The incident happened on the evening of Tuesday August 8 at LIC Road here. The accused in this case happens to be the son of a well-known non-vegetarian hotel owner here and a local resident.

It is said that the said youth had, since sometime, been waiting by different roads in the town. He was in the habit of suddenly unzipping his trousers when women road users are seen, and behave in an obscene way. On Monday he repeated his vulgar ways and a few offended women went home and narrated this incident to their family members, it is learnt. Angered by his behaviour, many locals came together, tied the accused up, and mauled him on Tuesday.

The accused, who arrived at a spot in his scooty with a raincoat on, was mobbed by local women who did not allow him to move. Then he was tied up to an electric pole and attacked with plastic wires. Police personnel of the town station who reached the spot after coming to know of the incident, took the man into custody. Family members of the young man then came to the police station and told the police that the youth is mentally ill. It also transpired that he is married and has children.

Many have been questioning the attitude of the people who took law into their hands and resorted to moral policing, as police have to be approached in case of any unlawful acts. At the same time, no case was registered in the police station. This also has given rise to suspicions among the people.

This indecent behaviour of the youth is completely unacceptable. But at the same time I condemn the public taking law in to their own hands. The public action is too close to 'lynching'.

The citizens should have faith in law enforcement department. If the public new he is repeated offender should have informed the law enforcement officers and they should have increase the patrol in plain cloth or under cover lady officer.

There is something wrong in his parenting. Need rehabilitation.

"Family members of the young man then came to the police station and told the police that the youth is mentally ill."
How come a mentally ill person rides a Scooter on public roads and how he has been issued with a driving licence, if he has one.
What if he knocks down some one on the road.....especially any lady since he is after ladies walking on the streets.
Can't understand who is talking truth here.....!!! sab golmal....!!!!

He is mentally ill and those women, who has seen him acting abnormally should have called police and police could have taken action immediately by either calling parents and advising parents for the medical care.

Unfortunately our crowd beats the soft target or mentally ill person but do not act to real goondas or immoral goondas.

Yes exactly... Why he is not doing such activities at home? He dressed up neatly, stylish hair cut...alongwith him his family should have been arrested. When public gathered excuses are ready on the tip of the tongue.
He misbehaved with ladies in turn ladies only taught him a lesson.

If this incident would have taken place in any BJP ruled state, then it would have surely ended in lynching as people in those states are used to it.

Better to lynch these types of culprits than keep them alive. They are cancer to the society.

The first question posed is always the same ....like the old old stories......." why did you take law into your own hands " ....." you should call the police "

the first one is something much softer that happened compared to what happens in the north .....you wont live and there wont be any arrests

second calling the police is like grandmother saying "if you don't drink your milk the boogie man will come"

Let medical experts decide if he needs medical treatment or treatment from the law of the land. But, behavior of the sane and educated people is questionable. This incident only proves that mob lynching is in the DNA of the people. Had he done little more that what he has, he would have probably been lynched. Luckily no one has blamed Modi yet.

People have done the right thing for habitual offender, otherwise the family member should have got him treated or kept at home.

This flashing must be a disease/psychological problem. The person should have been sent for treatment for correcting his behaviour. I recollect similar behaviour of a Mangalorean origin person in the UK who was a repeat offender. Gave crazy excuses for his behaviour. So this can be dangerous if not contained.
