Kasargod, Oct 14: Opposition leader in the Lok Sabha L K Advani has charged the Congress-led UPA government at the centre, of having failed in every conceivable field.
He was addressing a huge public gathering at Kasargod Talipadpu ground on Monday October 13, organized on the occasion of 'Vijay Sankalp Yatra'.
"The country is facing economic insecurity and collapse of the share market. Corruption has been rampant under the rule of the UPA government. Farmers are committing suicide almost on a daily basis. Terrorism is at its zenith and the security of the country is under threat. Because of the policy of minority appeasement followed by the Congress and the CPI(M) aimed at creating vote banks, the country is facing turmoil. Because of terrorism, anarchy has set in," Advani said.
Hindu leaders and the bishop have mutually agreed during discussions held at Delhi, that forcible religious conversion is not right. Sri Shankacharya had contributed immensely to the unity of Kerala through language and refinement. But the CPI(M) has unleashed violence in the state and dented democratic system, he charged.
He also deplored the state government policy of doling out annual scholarships and financial assistance of Rs 14,000 to every minority student in the state, as compared to only Rs 240 to a student from scheduled communities.
"I am happy to visit Kasargod, for the first time after BJP rose to power in Karnataka. The Vijaya Sankalp Yatra will help the BJP to rise to power at the centre. If the BJP is given a chance to rule the country again, apart from giving efficient administration on the lines of the erstwhile A B Vajpayee-led government, we will give top priority to rooting out corruption and providing transparant administration, he promised.
Advani inaugurated the state-wide campaign tour undertaken by Kerala State BJP Yuvamorcha president K Surendran, by handing him over the party flag. Kerala state BJP vice president Madikai Kammaran presided. Karnataka state BJP president and Mangalore MP D V Sadanand Gowda, MP Anant Kumar, Yuvamorcha national committee president Amit Thakoor, Kerala Province BJP president P K Krishnadas, and several other leaders addressed the gathering.
Earlier to the function, thousands of party workers went in a procession accompanied by musical bands and attractive tableaux, from the new bus stand of Kasargod to the venue of the public meeting.
