Rev Honeybal Cabral delivered sermon on the occasion. The choir, led by Bennett and his able team, succeeded in touching the hearts of the gathering and added to the grandeur of the occasion.
A prize distribution ceremony will be held in the church premises on Wednesday October 15 evening, under the presidentship of Premanand Shetty, chairman of the standing committee on social justice and health, Mangalore City Corporation at 6.
About Harvest Festival: In this part of the world, October is the season of harvesting and the practice of offering the first yield of the harvest to the Master of harvest, the heavenly God, has been in vogue since long. The Christians observe this occasion in a submissive way. Formerly, the harvest festival used to be celebrated in Mangalore on the first Wednesday of October every year, by all the Protestant churches. However, taking into consideration the examinations and holiday timing, most of the churches now celebrate the festival on Sundays.
All the families gather in the church, with offerings in kind and cash. After the thanksgiving worship service, the things in kind are auctioned. People competitively bid for things, as they are the offerings to the church.
After that, fellowship lunch is arranged by families, with the joining of guests and neighbours. In the afternoon, sports and games are held, followed by a prize distribution ceremony.
The festival serves as an occasion to thank the Lord for the bounteous yield, to denote fellowship and also to share joy.
