Mumbai, Aug 20: St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road, organised ‘Konkani Talent Competition’ at St Joseph’s Church Hall Sunday, August 19. The competition was in Fancy Dress, Elocution, Singing, Dance,Skits and Family unity categories. The competition was held for Konkani speaking parishioners of St Joseph’s Church, Mira Road.
Famous Konkani critic, dramatist, director Francis Oliveira; singer-trainer, and writer Dr Vincent D Mello; famous actor and writer Gregory Sequira Niddodi, were the judges. Fr Melwyn D’Cunha, spiritual director of the association and parish priest of St Joseph’s Church, Mira Road along with assistant parish priest Fr Walter and the committee members of the association inaugurated the competition by a prayer.
“Do not just participate for winning the prize but for the spirit of participation; everyone who participates is the winner,” Fr Melvin said.
After the competition, judges praised the participants, guiding them to improve further. Francis Olivera said that he had heard that Mira Road is known as ‘mini Mangalore’ and today he understood why it is called ‘mini Mangalore’.
The talent competition conducted by the association is really praiseworthy and praised the efforts taken by the St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association for the betterment of Konkani by organising such talent competitions,” said Dr. Vincent. Gregory said Konkani language has a great future ahead and congratulated all participants.
The programme was compered by Jossy Gonsalves along with Prasann-Niddodi. Digo Rodrigues, president of St Joseph’s Konkani Welfare Association, Mira Road offered vote of thanks.
