Madikeri: Relief items meant for flood victims, whisked by middlemen

Daijiworld Media Network - Madikeri (MS)

Madikeri, Aug 22: Complaints are being heard that the relief materials meant for flood-affected victims of Kodagu are being taken away by the middlemen.

Accusations are being heard that the things sent by generous people are being stolen and sold to shops at a cheaper rate. Vegetables, milk powder, rice, wheat powder, water bottles, blankets etc are being supplied in abundance to the various relief centres in the district of Kodagu.

Only the relief centres which are run by voluntary organizations are manned properly. But the relief centres run by the district administration do not have proper security and the things are being looted by brokers.

Flood-affected victims residing in Maithri hall in the town have complained that stale rice is being supplied to them.

Hearing all this, i can say, if I wish to help these victims, I should do it personally by myself, and not depend on any person/organization/corrupt govt.

Or else i have no option to help. Pathetic.

Dear Modi we need disaster Management team on national level ! By that you can create jobs for the youngsters ! Which is equipped with all modern amenities including helicopters and donor accounts to be separately handled by this team but you will not listen to it coz you are targeting now 2019

It is evident that Govt of the State is failed in helping the victims. All ministers r busy with infight. Nobody in the Govt is interested in extending a helping hand to the flood victims. CM is busy in Ajmer Trip no time for Co ordination committee meeting whuch was formed for smooth running of Govt

I know that surely this will be going to happen like that. Because there is nobody to monitor and organise. Everywhere everybody is collecting.

Absolutely right, when we collect something the persons collecting should be given a letter authorised by DC of the respective district.

@R.Bhandarkar,mangalore,unfortunately yes, taking the chance to make money on victims lives. It is the same as when irce tobe provided to soceity ,on ration cards, where is the rice going?to the godown of insider godowns.to be sold to hoteliers.People get only old rice or rotted rice to the school children for midday meals.Miserable stage. They dont think of hunger struck people but own pockets,
