Right wing Organisations Call for Goa Bundh on October 20

Panaji, Oct 19: The Hindu right wing organisations in the state have given call for `Goa bundh' tomorrow (Monday) protesting against the increasing desecration of idols in the state.

Gathered under the banner of Mandir Suraksha Samiti, the organisations have castigated the state government for failure to nab brains behind such acts, which have become rampant in this coastal state.

"We appeal the people to participate wholeheartedly in the bandh to make government realise the anger towards such incidents," the organisers had said earlier this week, during a press conference.

Goa government has taken the strike call serious and promulgated section 144 of CrPc prohibiting processions, demonstrations, bandh, strikes, road closures and forcible closure of shops and other establishments on October 20 between 6  a.m to 6 p.m.

"We appeal people to desist from participating in the bandh. Government will provide adequate security to all the shops and establishments, which would not respond to the bandh," Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat told a press conference on Saturday.

The state has witnessed around 500 desecrations of different places of religious significance in recent past. "These shrines are in the isolated places. There is a systematic effort to temper with the communal harmony of the state," Kamat had alleged.

The Chief Minister who convened high level meeting which was attended by Home Minister Ravi Naik on Saturday has declared award of Rs one lakh for the informant giving clue about the culprits.

The state police have also formed a team led by superintendent of police (crime branch) Mangaldas Desai, to probe these incidents.

The police are wary about the strike call as according to them it may adversely affect the communal harmony in the state. The report submitted to the district administration by police has said that bandh call may spark communal tension.

The south Goa district earlier has witnessed communal tension with the Sanvordem-Curchorem twin towns burning with communal hatred for almost three days in 2006.

The state government today released media advertisements through Goa's leading dailies appealing people `to maintain communal harmony.'

"Some disruptive elements in the state are bent upon disturbing peace and communal harmony in the state by resorting to violent and undemocratic actions like desecration of religious idols. The government of Goa is committed to protect all the places of religious worship and strong action will be initiated against the perpetrators and anti social elements," the advertisement reads.

Through the advertisement, Goa government has appealed the people of the state to thwart the evil designs of these subversive elements and to remain vigilant.

"People are requested not to support the illegal bandh called on October 20 by some groups and organizations. Such bandhs are unconstitutional and illegal as held by supreme court and government will take appropriate action against the organizers," it reads.

I condemn the desecration of 500 religious places in Goa. Is it a revengful acts by Catholics of Goa for attacks on churches in Mangalore. Where are the Gulf mangaloreans who raised hue and cry when few chruches are attacked? You people justfy the acts of BD in Mangalore.

If 500 hindu temples are damaged , nobody cares. If 10 -20 churches are attacked , it will become an international news. By this I am not supporting the attacks on churches, I personally condemn both attacks on churches and temples. But I wonder where Mr Mahesh Bhat (from Human rights commision) , Oscar fernandis, Devegowda, Janardhana Poojary, Veerappa moily have gone . Why the committee from central govt didnt visit ? Why no notice under section 355 ? Is it just because this is happening to hindu temples ? Why the so called secular english newspapers are not highlighting this news? Why secular TV channels have not started a national debate on this.

The only answer for this is all the above people are PSEUDOSECUALR. This type of descrimination hurts hindus. When nobody listens to their hardship, they resort to violence. Please voice your comments and help to get justice to hindus too.

The Bandh, the reported hardships to people and finally the news in the secular Indians newspapers. We were shocked to see in the news that around 500 temples in the state have been desecrated and /or damaged. It was like news blanket, we heard a lot of news about the fire in a another place of worship in Karnataka and the police action etc. One wonders why this indifference and also encouragement to the bad elements in general that feel free to attack the so called majority, on the name of secularism we will protect and may be encourage you.

Shame on this crazy meaning of secularism, this will lead the country to civil war and division. Maoist have also now joined the bandwagon and may even get arms and ammunition from, who else!!

Installation of CCTVs in all religious and places of public interest should be a must, so that the culprits can be caught in the act. CM of GOA should take prompt action to catch and punish the culprits so that the secular fabric of the nation is not tarnished.

Now Goa in the firing line of the communal forces. Mr Chief Minister, you will show that you are no navin patnaik or yeddyurappa, who put power before peace and people. Will you? Your actions should speak louder than the promises of peace! Act, and act tough.
