Dubai: Upbeat Billawa Balaga Ladies Wing celebrates First Anniversary

Dubai, Oct 21: On 19th of October 2007, on the occasion of the DASHAMANOTSAVA celebration, Billawa Balaga Dubai, the official representative of the Billawa community in Dubai created history by being the first social organisation in the gulf to provide a platform for the ladies of Billawa Community to be part of the social development by launching Billawa Balaga - Mahila Vibhaga an exclusive forum of Billawa ladies.
The successful Mahila Vibhaga team celebrated their first anniversary on 17th Oct 2008 at the Almaas Residence Hall in Dubai. In the short span of a year the growth of Billawa Balaga - Mahila Vibhaga seems almost beyond the realm of imagination for some and joy for most. The Billawa Mahilas proved that they can be as successful as their male counterparts in organising events to aid charitable causes.
A daring and courageous team led by the dynamic Geeta Suvarna has never faltered in front of challenges, never fell back in the face of hurdles and never let up in their desire to serve. From organising super hit programs like Golden Oldies Nite in Dubai to participating in scholarship to deserving children back home, to adopting the girl child for education and raising funds close to AED 100K in one year is no mean feat.
In the recently concluded Billawa event in Mangalore, Mahila Vibhaga had participated in the Damodar R Suvarna scholarship program. There they honoured M R Poovamma Olympian from Mangalore in the presence of Chief Minister B S Yeddiyurappa. This marked the announcement from the CM for a synthetic track and the much awaited announcement of Mangala Stadium Development project with a Rs. 3 Crore sanction by the govt.
Suresh Poojary, Owner Sukh Sagar Group of restaurants and President Billawa Jagriti Balaga, Mumbai and Santosh S Poojary, Vice President Billawa Mahila Sangha, Mumbai in a telephone conversation with Geeta Suvarna congratulated members of Mahila Vibhaga on the successful completion of one year and wished success and enduring support to the Mahila Vibhaga.
President of Billawa Balaga Dubai Ashok Anchan in his address said that it is a moment of pride to say that the works and achievements of Mahila Vibhaga in last one year are worthy of emulation for all who may follow hereafter and give opportunity for Mahilas to take part in social development works”. He further said that Billawa Balaga Dubai has always been a trend setter and wished Mahila Vibhaga more success in future.
President of Mahila Vibhaga, Geeta Suvarna in her address said that community service is a difficult task indeed, but yet the Mahila Vibhaga working committee has overcome this by indomitable perseverance, determination, and courage. Our success has been enviable thanks to the efforts of each and every member. She also emphasised the value of putting aside one dirham every day as charity and how over a period of time this small amount could grow to an extent where it could make a difference in a needy person’s life. She appealed for more members to join the committee to strengthen the team to serve the needy. Currently Mahila Vibhaga has a twenty five member strong working committee and is scheduled for expansion.
Billawa Balaga Dubai founder Daya Kirodian also spoke on the occasion. Five new members of the Mahila Vibhaga were introduced to the invitees.
The celebration was attended by a large section of people from the Billawa community. The function started with cutting of the cake by President and executive committee of Mahila Vibhaga and concluded with lots of fun games for all and delicious dinner from Chaavadi Restaurant.
