Panaji, Oct 20: Goa Church has condemned attack by miscreants who are on rampage desecrating temples across the state.

The right wing organizations have called for Goa bundh on Monday October 20, protesting against the increasing desecration of idols in the state.

The state on the coastal state has witnessed around 500 desecrations in recent past, mostly in the temples located at isolated places in rural Goa.

"It is a matter of serious concern that our State is witnessing an increased number of desecration of Hindu places of worship," Fr Francisco Caldeira, director, Diocesan centre for social communication Media, Goa church's wing, said.

Fr Caldeira said that the desecration is a dangerous trend for the social fabric of the State, which is known to be a land of religious harmony and amity.

"While we condemn such acts of cowardice and vandalism against religious places, we express our unstinted solidarity with the aggrieved community and we appeal for peace to be maintained at all costs and we call upon the concerned authorities to bring the culprits to book," the church has said.

"We earnestly pray that all Goans may be instruments of peace and respect for all religions and express their solidarity particularly with the community that has been hurt in this ongoing violence," Fr Caldeira added.

Hindu right wing organizations have called for bundh protesting against state government's lethargy in booking the culprits.

The State government has declared bundh as illegal and has appealed people not to respond for the call.

The state government has clamped section 144 of CrPc in the State banning the protests and bundh on Monday.
