Centre not helping Kerala: Sharad Yadav

New Delhi, Aug 27 (IANS): Loktantrik Janata Dal (LJD) patron Sharad Yadav on Monday accused the Modi government of not helping flood-ravaged Kerala.

"Following the devastating floods, the Kerala government demanded Rs 20,000 crore from the Centre. But the central government gave only Rs 600 crore, which is less than 10 per cent of the amount demanded," Yadav told the media.

"And when the United Arab Emirates (UAE) tried to help Kerala, the aid was rejected by the central government," he said.

Yadav said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said on Sunday in his monthly radio broadcast that the entire country was standing by Kerala.

"The people in the country are indeed with the people of Kerala except the central government. It is not helping Kerala properly," he said.

Hundreds have been killed and hundreds of thousands made homeless following the worst flooding in Kerala in nearly a century.
