Udupi, Oct 21:
Students of the Welcome Group of Hotel Management at Valley View International, Manipal, near here, celebrated World Bread Day on Monday October 20, by participating in various bread-making competitions.

The students prepared and displayed several varieties of breads in different shapes, from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Norway. Bread Day was celebrated by the students here for the fifth consecutive year and it has been held worldwide for 18 years.

Bread bears a highly symbolic power that stands for solidarity as well as the ability to share.  As a universal product found in almost all civilizations even now, it still accompanies every meal.

Bread is staple food for some, luxury or modern dietary food for others; bread itself means so much that it deserves a World Day in its honour. World Bread Day aims at providing an opportunity to talk about bread and bakers, to know about their history, their importance, and their future.
