Bengaluru: Diesel prices going up - bus fares expected to rise shortly

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Sep 5: Commuters all over the state, who have been already burdened by the increasing prices of diesel and petrol, will have to brace up to meet an increase in bus fare. It is learnt that state transport corporations run by the government have been suffering an average loss of Rs 186 crore per month as diesel price has gone up steeply during the last three months. As this loss is expected to go up further, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation has submitted a proposal to the government, seeking permission to hike bus fares by 18 percent.

The government is examining this proposal. Sources said that instead of 18 percent, the government might permit a lower rate of hike in fare. Transport minister, D C Thammanna, briefing about the financial condition of the transport corporations, revealed that the corporations had approached the government with a request for fare hike about two and half months back. He said that the proposal would be discussed with the chief minister and a final decision would be taken within a week. He added that when taking a decision on increasing the bus fare, it will be ensured that the passengers are not unduly burdened, and the transport corporations too do not face heavy losses. He said that on account of diesel price hike, the transport corporations are facing financial stress and to meet this situation, they are left with no other option other than increasing bus fare.

Thammanna stated that 40 new buses will be acquired by the transport corporations as there is good demand for sleeper coaches on long distance routes. "We propose to run additional buses to far away destinations during the holiday season. In phases, the menace of private buses will be reined in. The confusion on free passes to students will be addressed within a week," he assured.

Kindly put govt. buses in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts including wherever no KSRTC bus services in the state. While compensating for the loss incurred by KSRTC the government using the share of these twin districts but not provided the service of KSRTC buses.

KSRTC buses running between North Karnataka and Mangalore are always empty. Please permit them to pick passengers on the way between Udupi-Mangalore or put more reular ordinary buses between Mangalore-Udupi. At present running costly volvo buses are just for public eyewash to favour private bus owners and not to favour the tax payers.

Private buses should not be continued in DK and Udupi because they are looting the public and government through the muscle power of their association for a long time. Their buses are running as per the instruction of political leaders and not as per the requirement of the public. There is no express bus stop in Haleangad, i to favour only 20-25 owners of Kinnigoli-Kateel buses.

Last but not least, bus owners increase bus fare during diesel price hike but do not reduce during decrease of diesel price. While fixing bus fare, average diesel price during the year should
    be considered.

Use Bullock carts and elephants, as fares once raised will never come down, even if fuel prices dip. With present governance on fuel carts are best as bullocks are available in abundance.

    No No...
Transport ministry should make different plan . Most of the buses fly empty.
example Mang-Bang each bus makes 7 trips a week. Instead make 3-4 trips a week or on alternative days only. Or release buses depending on demand. Never waste fuel.

Use Solar powered vehicles inside city, anyway you cant go in high speed because of traffic. Use public transport for long distance travel.
