Mangaluru Sep 7: As many as 28 organisations will join together for a massive protest march from Hampanakatta Circle to DC office on Monday, September 10 against the fuel hike, informed MLC Ivan D Souza.

Addressing media here on Friday September 7, Ivan D Souza said, "There has been continuous hike in fuel price and now it has reached up to Rs 81.63 per litre for petrol. In spite of less price of crude oil in international market, the price for fuel has skyrocketed. In 2014, the crude oil price was US dollar 108.26 per barrel and petrol price was Rs 65 per litre. Now in 2018, crude oil price is US 65 dollar per barrel and the petrol price is Rs 81.63 per litre,”

“Even the diesel price has increased up to Rs 74 per litre, compared to Rs 48 in the year 2014. There is no control over the price of the fuel. We had demanded to bring fuel under GST, but the Central government has refused to do so. The gas price was Rs 400 in 2014 and now it has doubled in 2018 to Rs 813 per cylinder. As per the RTI information, petrol and diesel are being sold at Rs 34 and Rs 27 respectively to some foreign countries,” Ivan informed.

"Even the common citizen has been suffering due to the fuel hike. Hence, 28 organisations have joined together for a massive protest march from Hampanakatta to DC office on September 10. We are not doing this for any political gain,” he said.

"Prior to the protest march on September 10, we will organise awareness meet on fuel hike on September 7 at Urwa Market, Urwa store, Urwa rickshaw stand, Kudroli Jodupalli, Bunder police station and Kandak between 6pm to 9pm. On September 8, the awareness meet will be held at Kudroli Circle, KMC Attavar, Mahakali Padpu, Valencia and Kankanady ground,” concluded Ivan D Souza.

President of Forum for Justice, Dayanand Kotian, Dilraj Alva, Donald D Souza and others were present.

When you ask why is the state government not reducing the tax on fuel, why are you not asking why is the central cowernment not including fuel under GST? State and Central goevernments are both scratching each others backs on this.. There are states ruled by various parties, just compare the prices and you will see the gaffe... Fuel is an essential commodity which comes under the Central ministry, they have more control that they can exercise which is lacking and people like us are paying the price for their nonsense policies and decisions.. Bhakths will continue to say, will do anything for the nation
and this hike is just another sacrifice they are ready to pay. but wonder where they were when the same happened under the last government and their Feku masters got out on roads...

    Which state government you say?.

Your BJP had 3 chief Ministers in 5 years and all 3 refused to lower the tax on petrol!.

Except How, no other BJP states has reduced petrol tax!. Maharashtra is BJP and countries highest price per litre is in Mumbai!!!.

So just because it is non BJP government in Karnataka, you want them to reduce!.

Modiji government has increased customs duty 9 times citing lower petrol prices and hence low tax for government! But why now not reducing when prices are high!!!!???

    Hello

Please dont mislead the people with statement like - As per the RTI information, petrol and diesel are being sold at Rs 34 and Rs 27 respectively to some foreign countries,” Ivan informed. When a commodity is exported there is no tax on that commodity also Input material used for the commodity get exemption on custom duty. So Rs34 or Rs27 is normal. In India close to 50% of the price pf petrol is nothing but tax levied by State and Central Governments .And no Govt is willing to sacrifice that amount. One way it is justified because it is Sin tax on alcohol /tobocco since we import close to 70% of requirements from international markets

Rightly said this protest is not for any political gain. This is General Protest by all people to bring down the cost of petrol, diesel and cooking gas to bring under GST. Cooking gas is most common people use and LPG is for Auto Rick. So please support the protest for the benefit of all people of India, Jai Hind
