Bengaluru: Man murders wife over appointment of domestic help

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Sep 7: Angered at his wife for her inability to appoint domestic help, a man sliced her throat with a knife and killed her late night on Wednesday September 5. The identity of the deceased wife has been given as Preethi (38). She was killed near Rama Mandir in Rajajinagar here.

The police have arrested Preethi's husband, Hiren (41), for this murder. The police said that a quarrel on the issue of appointment of domestic help culminated in this murder. Hiren is from Gujarat, while Preethi was from Maharashtra. Their marriage was held 18 years back, and the couple has a 15-year-old son.

Hiren and Preethi lived in a rented apartment near Rama Mandir, Rajajinagar here. Hiren worked as manager for a food processing factory in Kurubarahalli, while his wife was a housewife.

Hiren had not consented to hire any domestic help at home since the last some months, and Preethi used to pester him to appoint one, as she felt overburdened by domestic work. On Wednesday again this issue ignited friction between the two, during which Preethi reportedly physically attacked her husband. Angered by this turn of events, Hiren rushed to the kitchen, brought out a knife, and sliced his wife's throat with it. Preethi who bled profusely, lost her life on the spot. The couple's son was not present at home when this incident happened. The police said that the boy, who saw his mother's corpse in the evening, fell semi-conscious and continued to be in that state for long.

It is said Hiren, who waited till 11.30 pm at home with his wife's body, tried to transport her mortal remains by dragging it to the ground floor. When he was trying to load the body into his car, people in the neighbourhood and security staff saw what was happening, and alerted the police. The police rushed to the spot, arrested the accused, and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

    Dear Cynthia,
If you know someone who is a victim of domestic abuse then ask them to take a brave step, assist them to raise their voice. This is the only way to stop repitition of these incidents in our houses.Speaking about prestige in the society and staying quiet is the sure path to misery and an invitation to danger.

It is easy for men like you give suggestions. There are hardly few men who help their wives in house work. We ladies have to work outside, work at home...it is easy to tell to come out of the relationship...but practically it will not work because we are living in a male dominated society.

Thumb rule is give regular gifts not necessarily high valued ones! Or at least give regular assurances...then you can expect better result and smooth life.

Looks like a good idea. My friend gave his father 1000 rupees and told him to purchase something that will make his life comfortable. His father immediately bought a gift to his mother.
