Bengaluru: Techie loses 10-year legal battle, becomes state’s first cyber crime convict

Bengaluru, Sep 8: After a ten-year legal battle, a techie was convicted for a sending obscene emails, making it Crime Investigation Department’s very first conviction in Karnataka in a cyber crime case.

The convict Shivaprasad Sajjan was accused of sending obscene and derogatory emails to a victim and many others from a cyber café. A case with crime number 33/2008 under section 67 of the IT Act was registered in the Cyber Crime Police Station (CCPS), CID, Bengaluru.

Sajjan was arrested following the complaint and sent to judicial custody. However, he managed to obtain a bail and quit his lucrative job to study LLB and become a criminal lawyer to fight his own case. 

Sajjan used many loopholes in law, which prolonged the case for 10 years. Despite his efforts, he lost the case and was convicted under Section 67 of IT act.

A resident of Bagalkote, Sajjan is sentenced to two years imprisonment and fine of Rs 25,000 by the 1st ACMM Court, Bengaluru.
