IAF chief backs Rafale deal, says need to match adversaries

New Delhi, Sep 12 (IANS): Amid the rising clamour on the Rafale deal, the Indian Air Force Chief, Air Chief Marshal B.S. Dhanoa, on Wednesday said by acquiring the French fighters the IAF was strengthening its depleting fleet.

"By providing the Rafale and the S-400 (anti-missile system), the government is strengthening the Indian Air Force to counter the shortfall of our depleting numbers of aircraft," he said at an event here.

Pointing to IAF's strength coming down to 31 squadrons from the sanctioned strength of 42, Dhanoa said India faced a shortage of fighter aircraft despite the threat of a two-front war with Pakistan and China.

"Very few countries are facing challenges like us. We have two nuclear-armed neighbours. We have to match neighbours Pakistan and China to tackle a two-front war," he said.

The IAF chief's comments come a day after former Bharatiya Janata Party ministers Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie alleged Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "personal culpability" in the Rafale deal which they dubbed as the country's "biggest defence scam".

Earlier this month, the IAF Vice Chief, Air Marshal S.B. Deo too, had endorsed the Rafale, deal saying the aircraft will give India "unprecedented combat capabilities".

Besides BJP rebels Sinha and Shourie, the Congress led by its President Rahul Gandhi has been relentlessly attacking the Modi government over the jet deal that was announced by the Prime Minister in 2015.

IAF certainly wants Rafale for Air Superiority. UPA govt., recognizing the need ordered 129planes, of which 36was were to come from France, rest to be build in India with the help of HAL, who got the experience. The first 36 were to get by 2015. The price of each Fighter was 526crore.

Then there comes the superman Mr. Modi after winning elections in 2014. Goes straight to france with Anil Ambani, cancels UPA deal. Asks 36fighters off-the shelf, meaning immediate delivery. Agreed cost per fighter gets 1500crore or more.

Rest of the planes Ambni gets to produce, with no experience in building military aviation. This is not guess game as like Bofors. These are facts.

Well, this is not corruption, but patriotic act. So says Modi led BJP. It will be, as long as BJP rules the country. But, any one with even basic common sense can figure out both corruption and compromise on national security, in this act of Modi led Govt.

Who will have to pay the price for this crime? Common Man. As long as they are in hibernation it will continue.

As per the report, Air Chief Marshal B.S. Dhanoa said, by acquiring the Rafale fighters, the IAF was strengthening its depleting fleet.

But that does not mean that the ACM was, by any stretch of the imagination, backing the deal.

The news report, obviously promoting the stand of the Gujju-bhai's Government, is claiming to get support from the ACM. But the ACM said no such thing.

ACM would be happy to get any fighters. But it is the tax payers who are paying nearly three times the original figure. It is for the taxpayers to ask - why?

"IAF chief backs Rafale deal, says need to match adversaries"
Such explanation will not clarify opposition partiies demand.
    quote
"Dubbing the Rafale fighter jet deal as a "scam", Opposition parties in Lok Sabha Tuesday demanded a probe into it, with the Congress demanding the setting up of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate it."
    unquote
Who is benefitted in this deal ?

Leave the details pertaining to 'unprecedented combat capabilities' etc to the experts. Just reveal pricing and why a novice like Reliance Defence was chosen for a partner when experienced state owned company was very much available for partnership. This press release by Air Force reminds of the one on the surgical strikes, just an attempt to silence the skeptics. In reality, the defense officials can make press release only whatever their political bosses dictate them to.

Sure the Air Chief is right but its the baksheesh and ghoos that Mota bhai and Chota bhai ensured for themselves, thier party and their favoured industrialist bhais that needs to be investigated. When you favour hopelessly inexperienced private players instead of the experienced HAL, it smacks of crony capitalism.
