Mangalore: New Khazi Stresses Need for Peace and Harmony in City

Mangalore, Oct 26: The city has maintained peace and harmony for centuries. All efforts should be made to carry forward this trend here, said C M Abdullah Musliar Chembarikka on Sunday October 26.
Speaking after assuming charge as ‘Khazi’ of the city at the Central Jumma Masjid, he said that the role of the Khazi is not limited to marriage matters. But he has a big role in everyone’s life from birth to death. He can guide those who seek his guidance but has no right to punish anyone, said Abdullah Musliar.
Earlier, he was taken in a grand procession and thereafter, Sayyed Mohammad Jipri Muttu Koya Tangal of Kanhangad, conferred him with the post of Khazi.
Sayyed Sadik Ali Shihab Tangal Panakkad inaugurated the programme. Cherusheri Zainul Ulama Zainuddin Musliaar, general secretary, All Kerala Jamyattul Ulama, presided over the programme. Muslim Central Committee chairman KSM Masood, MLAs U T Khader and N A Haris, Ullal Jumma Masjid president U K Monu, and Muslim religious leaders from various parts of the state were present on the dais.
Afiq Mohammad Naushad recited ‘quirat’. T K M Bawa Musliaar officiated at the ‘Dua’. Y Mahammad Kunhi welcomed the gathering. The new Khazi of Mangalore was born at Chembarikka in Kasargod district in 1930.
He wrote many religious books after obtaining his Moulavi Fazil Bakhavi (MFB) degree in Vellore and knows English, Malayalam, Urdu, and Arabic. He has also served as the founder principal of Sahadi Arabic College, located in Kasargod.
