Udupi, Oct 28: Diwali was celebrated at Manipal with the annual firecracker show at the KMC Greens on Monday October 27.
Manipal University chancellor and president Dr Ramdas M Pai and his wife Vasanti Pai led the celebrations. Thousands of students, teachers and their families witnessed the grand display of fireworks at the KMC Greens, which lasted for 40 minutes.
Compared to the previous years, this year's celebrations were a low key affair, keeping in mind tragedies like the devastating floods in Bihar and the bomb attacks in the country. Dr Ramdas Pai kick-started the programme, by blessing the students and lighting a few fire sticks. He expressed a desire for the peace and prosperity to settle in the entire country and also that the youth of the country in particular, will behave soberly, peacefully and with more responsibility.
Manipal university vice chancellor Dr Raj Warrier, registrar of Manipal University G K Prabhu and KMC Manipal dean Dr Sripati Rao were present on the occasion. The students continued their celebrations long after the official programme ended. Young boys and girls of the University town could be seen all around in glittering new traditional wear. Trendy Jeans and skirts gave way to Kurtas and chudidars for quite a few on the Diwali night.
