Hyderabad: 62-year-old husband gives talaq to his 29-year-old wife on WhatsApp

Daijiworld Media Network - Hyderabad (MS)

Hyderabad, Sep 19: In a bizarre incident that has come to light quite late, a 62-year-old man divorced his 29-year-old wife on WhatsApp.

Saira (29), a resident of the city is the lady who received talaq from her husband on WhatsApp.

Saira had married a resident of Oman in May 2017. She had been to Oman with him and had led a marital life for one year. During this time Saira had given birth to a baby boy. However, the child had died in the eighth month after birth due to some illness. Her 62-year-old Omani husband had sent Saira back to her mother's house on the pretext of getting some treatment on July 30, 2018.

Once Saira arrived in India, her Omani husband has stopped the telephonic conversation with her. Repeated attempts of Saira to get in touch with him failed. On August 12, 2018, he divorced his wife by saying talaq on WhatsApp. Saira, who is shocked by her husband's behavior has asked the help of minister of foreign affairs Sushma Swaraj to intervene and provide justice to her.

We have to bring strict law to curb these old people coming to India marrying young girls for money and then exploiting them.

Lot of brokers also earn big money in these transactions.

Hyderabad is hub for these type of transactions.

unless & until these women's get the freedom/rights this kinds of incidents will continue. even though they are not interested in this kind of marriage, due to pressure from the family members/middlemen they have to accept this marriage. give them freedom & remove all the restrictions & treat them as human beings.

Aren't you aware that in India couple over seventy years got a baby some times back.
For men there's no age limit when it comes to fathering children, which is why it's not unusual to see older men with young kids. - Google

I am not saying what this man did was right, but you have to understand that the behaviour of this 62 year old was 100% in line with the contract that he came to into with this 29 year young Indian woman. So for a woman to have justice she should make a lawyer drafted rock solid contract with all the bells and whistles in place and most importantly have all the resources to go after him to ensure the clauses of the contract are properly executed. The hard part of this contract is these two individuals are citizens of 2 countries, with she in India and he in Oman it will be next to impossible to get justice in any way, shape or form.

He may or may not have paid her Mehr (Dowry), or Haq Mehr (Minimum/Guaranteed Dowry) which is stipulated and agreed in the contract. Once Talaq, is said 3 times the man pays up and he is responsibility is done and the woman is on her own. If she is educated she may have a good job and she could look after herself and her children, but in most cases she becomes dependent on her family, her community and the government.

An Indian husband in the age group of 30's would have loved and looked after her in a better way. Desire for wealth will not solve the problems. Such glorification is short lived when getting married to an Arab who is three times the bride’s age and who treats women as commodity.

    Dear Maam,
Infact, we don't have any modern islam, Islam is a islam which taught peace and followed since 1400 years ago with no changes in our holy book.

These are cannot be discussed by common man, the one who have deep knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence can advise.

Talaaq given by Wats up may not be acceptable, she has to approach Khazi (person who has knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence) to discuss this issue.

    Dear Rita,
replying to such comments is in itself is stupidness, I hope you have enough knowledge what Islam, Hinduism and Christianity preach. these half cooked uncultured and uneducated muslims made our great religion like drama.

in this case first of all its choice of girl to get marry to a person elder than her or younger than her as religion is allowed to marry person once reached to the pubic age and our law of land prescribed 18 years so both are in compliance to the age, regarding talaq,

sending talaq on WhatsApp is not acceptable in any jurisdiction of Islam or law of land hence she should have considered such scenario before marrying a person from overseas and I have seen so many cases where Indians marry from other countries where they have no love only lust/greed , once they are satisfied with the lust/greed surely there is no point in continuing and they depart, so no religion can do any role or Sughmajior a khazi can do.

These Hyderabadies are ideots. Seems total un-Islamic marriage. Giving doughter for money or a bad financial circumstance lead to such unwanted marriages and cause bad image to faith.
IN ISLAM - It is allowed for a girl to refuse her parents choice.
The parents may like or dislike their daughter's choice, but as long as the person is good, the girl can marry.
The girl's will is superior to the will of parents, from the hadith (In the time of Prophet): A woman named Khansa Bint Khidam once came to the Prophet and complained: "My father has forced me to marry my cousin in order to raise his own status (in the eyes of the people)." The Prophet told her that she was free to dissolve this marriage and choose whomever she wished to marry. She replied, "I accept my father's choice, but my aim was to let the women know that fathers have no right to interfere in the marriage." SOURCE - (Ahmad, Nasa'i and Ibn Majah)
