Margao, Oct 29: Coming strongly on Margao Municipal Council, Bhartiya Janata Party has said that most of the mobile phone towers within the jurisdiction of MMC are illegal.

According to BJP, these towers are allegedly been constructed without prior permission of concerned offices. Thus they have violated the rules and regulations and guidelines framed by the government.

BJP Margao block treasurer Navin Raikar had sought information of these towers under Right to Information Act with MMC. But they failed to provide him the same.

Speaking to media persons he said that as per the guidelines drawn for mobile phone towers, they (towers) should not be erected at public places nearer to the hospitals, educational institutes and residential colonies. It may cause danger to the public due to radiation.

He expresses his concern that some towers are erected on 50-75-year-old buildings. This can put people in the problem if any untoward incident occurs.

Raikar has sought chief secretary's intervention in this matter and has asked for stringent action against those who violated the guidelines.

Meanwhile, there are rumors that MMC chairperson and deputy chairperson may face the No Confidence Motion, as most of the councilors are unhappy with their work.
