Panaji, Oct 31: Union civil aviation minister Praful Patel today lamented that every small thing in the state bogs down to political or social controversy which severely affects economic growth of the country.
"Every small thing in this country is bogged down to political and social controversy. In these circumstances we wont be able to find out solutions for our problems," Patel said.
Speaking in the felicitation function of renowned industrialist Dr Praful Hede in presence of Goa chief minister Digamber Kamat, speaker Pratapsingh rane and other dignitaries, Patel said destinations like Singapore and Maldieves are increasingly catching up attentions of Indian weekend holidayers.
"We are increasingly losing revenue to them," he said.
"One lakh seats are flown between India and Dubai every week. Similar is the number with Singapore. Of this 80 per cent go for weekends," the union civil aviation minister said.
Why can't we create such beautiful cities here. People go to Maldieves why not Lakhdweep, he questioned.
He said that for infrastructure development speed is necessary and everyday improvement is required. "As world is getting more competitive, you need to response for the change in time," Patel said.
The minister said that India needs to introspect and look at future of our country. "It's time for introspection for all of us in the civil society. World is moving in different cycle and it is not the happy cycle," he said in an apparent reference to the global economic recession.
He said that India has done lot on economic front but it is washed away due to global recession affect. "The kind of poverty and economic condition we face, it is scary. If we look at the country as a whole, the number of people looking for better living is mind boggling," Patel said.
"All these religious and caste issues are manifestation of frustration. Unless we do something we are in serious trouble," the UPA minister added.
