Thanking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for taking steps to accord classical language status to Kannada, he said the state government would sanction a Rs one crore grant to any University, either in India or abroad, if it sets up a chair for research activities in Kannada language.

The Chief Minister said that the government, in a bid to encourage use of Kannada, would award Rs 50,000 each to the students who qualify in Union civil cervices exams by writing in the language.

Yedyurappa also said that use of signboards in Kannada is compulsory across the state.

The CM said he would lead a delegation of leaders, including from North Karnataka, to meet the Prime Minister to seek special economic status to North Karnataka region under Article 371 of the Constitution.

"We want the Centre to amend Article 371 to include North Karnataka for special grants and also an IIT. I will take leaders of North Karnataka region in the delegation", he said.

Thanks to Daijiworld for this wonderful news coverage. The present name of our district (DK District) is famous, not only in India, but also in International level including middle east, western and eastern countries. Hence, there should not be any change of name. I agree with the opinion expressed by my elder friend and well wisher Balvinder Singh Bhai of Mangalore.

I know that Balvinder Singh Bhai likes Mangalore and Karnataka very much, as he is residing at Mangalore since so many years. Its true that Sikhs had been active in the freedom struggle with around 80% sacrificing their lives and families for the freedom of the nation inspite of their population of just 2%. I really appreciate this data given by Balvinder Singh Bhai.

One of the first indication was the "Cow Row" affair. This incident took place in Lahore on the 24th of April 1846, when under protest the businessmen of Lahore closed their shops against the British guard stationed outside the Masti Gate of the City. When the Britishers sent some officers to explain their position the people of the area pelted stones on them standing on the roof tops of their houses. As a result one man was uted and two were jailed.

The houses from which the stones were thrown were razed to the ground. Even today also we remember many of the indian freedom fighters from Punjab, namely Shaheed Bhagath Singh, Udham Singh (the great), Bhai Maharaj Singh, Baba Gurdit Singh, Baba Gurmukh Singh, Baba Hari Singh Usman, Baba Jawala Singh, Baba Sher Singh, Bal Raj Bhalla, Baldev Singh, Balwanth Singh, Banta Singh, Bhagwan Singh Longowalia, Bhai Parmanand, Lala Har Dayal, and many others well known patriots of India, with a burning desire to see their motherland free from the clutches of British colonialism and imperialism.

I HAD SEEN PHOTOS OF KARNATAKA CELEBRATION BUT IN INDIA`S MAP THERE IS AN EMPTY SPACE NEAR GUJARAT. I THINK THE BJP GOVERNMENT HAS FORGOTTEN SIKHS AND THEIR SACRIFICE FOR THE NATION. THEY ARE HAPPY TO KEEP THAT SPACE EMPTY INSTEAD OF FILLING IT WITH THE SYMBOL OF SIKHISM. INDIA IS NOT MADE OF ONLY HINDUS,MUSLIMS AND CHRISTIANS.SIKHS HAD BEEN ACTIVE IN THE FREEDOM STRUGGLE WITH AROUND 80 % SACRIFICING THEIR LIVES AND FAMILIES FOR THE FREEDOM OF THE NATION EVEN THOUGH THEIR POPULATION IS JUST 2%.

KANNADA RAJYAOTSAVA IS NOT ONLY FOR KANNADIGAS BUT FOR ALL WHO ARE LIVING IN KARNATAKA.IF KARNATAKA GETS RESPECT FROM THE RESIDENTS ,THE RESIDENTS DEFINITELY DESERVE RECOGNITION.

The Chief Minister Yedyurappa is great leader for Karnataka. A IIT would be big boost for Karanataka, the Indian silicon Valley.
