Moodubidri : Grand Celebration of Kajulo Porob - Children's Fiesta

Moodubidri, Nov 5: ‘Kajulo’ the only Konkanni Children’s Monthly magazine is a sister concern of Raknno Konkanni Weekly published from Mangalore. On the occasion of 10th anniversary of ‘Kajulo’ monthly, in collaboration with Moodbidri-Alangar Church, it had organized a children’s fiesta ‘Kajulo Porob - 2008’ in Moodbidri-Alangar Church Campus on the 1st of November 2008.
CHILDREN’S FIESTA: The feast began with attractive performance of unique ‘Shri Durga Nasik Band’ of Moodbidri. At 10 a.m. Fr John D’Souza the Vacar Vara of Moodbidri Deanery together with Fr Vincent D’Souza the parish priest of Alangar inaugurated the Fiesta by leaving free the pigeons. Clifford Aranha and Valerian Sequeira were present. Throughout the day variety of competitions for more than 1000 children were held. There were quiz competitions in three groups and class wise games separately for boys and girls with attractive prizes. Special variety of entertainment was given by Merulla and group from Jeppu, Ranson Crasta from Bejai, Jovian and Cletus from Derebail and Clenita and Sherin from Valencia. The day’s winners as well as winners of literary competitions which were held during the past months for the children were honoured during the concluding ceremony. 10 parishes participated in inter-parish group dance competitions. Derebail group won the first prize, Gantalkatte group won the second place and Moodbidri group won the third prize.
BOOK RELEASE: Three new Konkanni publications of Raknno publications were released on this occasion during the concluding function.
‘Cha-Kaapi’ (Tea-Coffee - 105th book of Raknno Publications) – A collection of short stories by renowned Konkanni short story writer Stan Ageira, Mulky was released from a tea kettle by Fr Vincent D’Souza. ‘Kube Mutlim’ – A collection of 100 modified editorials (106th book of Raknno Publications) by Fr Francis Rodrigues, Editor of Raknno-Kajulo was released from a cooking pot by Palakala Seetharam Bhat. ‘HUMINN SODOVYAM’ (Let us solve the riddles - 107th book of Raknno Publications)) – A collection of more than 1000 Konkanni riddles by Mrs Gladys Rego was released from an old wooden box by Very Rev. Sister Prescilla D’Mello. So far Raknno Publications has published 107 publications. ‘Kanun Darshan’ – a Raknno Publication book on legal awareness by Shirtady William Pinto has seen 5 record editions in a short span of life.
CONCLUDING CEREMONY: Very Reverend Sister Prescilla D’mello, Superior General of Sisters of Helpers of Mount Rosary presided over the valedictory programme. She persuaded the children to grow as glow worm (Kajulo) which shines even in the dark and to imbibe human values in one’s personality. Palakala Seetaram Bhat, a renouned writer of child literature was the chief guest. In his message he said: “School is like a beautiful garden. There we can see number of flowers with variety of talents. The purpose of education is to trace them, support them and train them.
We need children’s programmes like this one through out the year as to give them opportunities as to trace their talents and train them.” Fr Vincent D’Souza, parish priest of Holy Rosary Church, Alangar was the guest of honour. Persons who have contributed to the growth of the magazine ‘Kajulo’ during the last ten years were honoured on the occasion. Among them were the founder editor of Kajulo Fr Eric Crasta, supporter Santhosh Sequiera of Santhosh Arrangers and writer of children literature Palakala Seetharam Bhat. Derrol D’Souza and Lenita Menezes compeered the programme, Editor Fr Francis Rodrigues welcomed and Chief Sub-Editor Mr Joachim Pinto proposed vote of thanks.
‘Kajulo’ magazine has organized children’s fiesta from the year 2005. Earlier feasts have taken place in Mangalore, Kasargod and Udupi.
