SC asks Modi govt for Rafale deal details, says won't get into pricing

New Delhi, Oct 10(DC): The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the Centre to provide details of Rafale decision making process in sealed cover.

The apex court clarified that it does not want information on pricing and technical details of the Rafale fighter jet deal.

Petitioner ML Sharma argued that there was corruption in the Rs 59,000 crore deal for 36 fighters from France's Dassault.

The court clarified that it is not taking into account allegations made in petitions.

The deal was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former French president Francois Hollande in 2016.

"We are not issuing notice to the government. We make it clear that the court hasn't bought into the arguments made by the petitioner. Their arguments are grossly inadequate," the Supreme Court said, adding, "We want to satisfy ourselves on the steps taken in the decision-making. We are not going into the issue of suitability keeping in mind the sensitivity of the issue."

The Centre has opposed pleas on Rafale fighter jet deal filed in the apex court and sought their dismissal on ground that they have been filed to gain political mileage.

Attorney General KK Venugopal told the Supreme Court that the Rafale deal pertains to national security and such issues cannot be reviewed judicially.

"National security is involved and the court is being used on the eve of polls to gain politically in the bitter fight between the government and the opposition," KK Venugopal said.

Is Supreme Court is thinking 'national security' a wedding gift to presented in 'Sealed cover'?
When 'pricing' is the contentious issue that is the core of the corruption, why such prestigious court is avoiding it?

This newly appointed Chief Justice of India Ranjan Goggi has revolted against the previous CJI. Now when he is in the same seat he suppose to give the right decision seems like under duress of the influence of power.

How does the nation will new, when the Defense Minister, Prime Minister Office and bunch of other department is giving contradictory statement each day on the deal?

Supreme Court of India has compromised the 'National Security'. If the CJI believes oath of office then transparency of the subject given utmost importance.

    1. Is 'Closed envelope' to Supreme Court will bring the truth rattle the nation?
    2. If the previous government can disclose the prices why the Supreme Court is trying part of the corruption?
    3. Is Supreme Court is permanently blinding the 'Lady of justice'?

Security is being used by the BJP as a fig leaf to keep this scandal under wraps. They could have informed the Supreme Court that they will order JPC to clear all doubts. I suppose they have a lot to hide and will make every effort to stone wall the opposition attempts to get to know the Truth.

BJP just does not believe in Accountability and Transperancy.

What is this SC asking, no pricing details, decision making deal in sealed cover?. Is it a personal matter or a public matter where tax payers money is involved, so people want to know the details more than SC???.

No way, this is part of Feku's game plan only. Knowing the limitations of judiciary under Feku rule, opposition has been reluctant to seek legal recourse all this time.

Make serious note of SC's demand. SC is seeking only decision making process for the deal and NOT pricing. Eventually when the case is concluded BJP will claim great victory on SC verdict saying court has given just verdict on the price of the deal and bash opposition on false propaganda. Blind Bhakths will take this to next level for vote bank. Anyway, all know the outcome of this half baked, name sake, eye wash case.
