Brhamavar, Jul 21: Karnataka's Minister for Health and Family Welfare U T Khader Fareed visited the historic Malik Dinar Jumma Masjid at Santeguddeand other religious centres in Barkur on Tuesday, July 21.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that Barkur is a historically significant and sacred place. He noted that although several dynasties, including the Vijayanagara rulers, governed Barkur over the centuries, its rich culture and heritage have remained intact despite changes in rulers and administrations. "Many kings ruled this region, but its traditions and cultural values have been preserved to this day. This is a remarkable achievement," he said.

U T Khader pointed out that Barkur is home to several ancient temples, mosques, and churches, where people from different communities have lived together in harmony. "The spirit of India's culture is evident the moment one sets foot in Barkur. It is a land with thousands of years of history and a glorious civilisational legacy. I pay my respects to this region, which stands as a symbol of communal harmony, culture, and humanity. During my visit, I witnessed the spirit of brotherhood, love, and mutual trust that prevails here," he said.

U T Khader urged people to preserve values such as love, trust, culture, brotherhood, traditions, and customs by following the guidance of elders. Calling upon the youth to contribute towards building a trustworthy society, a developed Karnataka, and a strong India, he assured that the government would extend all possible support for the development of Barkur and for reviving its historical grandeur.

Coastal Development Authority chairman M A Gaffoor, in his introductory address, stressed the need to formulate a comprehensive plan to restore Barkur's historical prominence and revive its rich heritage.

U T Khader also visited Sri Babbuswami Moola Kshetra, Kachoor Malthidevi daivasthana, Barkur, Panchalingeshwara Temple and St Peters Church, Barkur, during his visit.

Among those present were District president of the Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Congress leader Molahalli Dinesh, president of the Panchalingeshwara Temple Renovation Committee Suggi Sudhakar Shetty, and several other dignitaries.
