Mangalore, Nov 8: 'Pre Unique- 2008,' a two-day-long annual state-level intellectual and cultural fest, organized by St Aloysius pre-university College (SAPUC) was inaugurated on Friday November 7.
Speaking on the occasion, assistant general manager of Karnataka Bank Dr Meera Aranha said that anybody can gain success by adopting an attitude of excellence and by facing the challenges with determination.
Frustration in students and their increased involvement with criminal activities is a matter of concern. They should own skills to convert hurdles into opportunities, she advised.
An exhibition organized by the students on worldly knowledge, where students gave their own solutions to various problems, attracted lot of attention. Street lights which never get switched off till noon, problems created by those who press calling bells at midnight, oblivious to the plight of those in sound sleep, water spilling out of tank etc. were dealt in an imaginative way by students and simple solutions provided by them to these and several other problems that are encountered routinely, surprised the visitors.
Apart from that automatic water sprinkling facility to the parched gardens, villages created in a planned manner, generation of power by using lightning etc. succeeded in giving rise to a sense of hope among the audience and gave proof about the imaginative skills of students.
Rector of St Aloysius College Fr Francis J Serrao presided over the occasion.
Principal Prof John Edward D'Silva, dean Anil Mascarenhas, convener of programme Kishore D'Silva, assistant convener Muralikrishna, Prem Joseph Saldanha, president of students union Devika Gowri, secretary Rohit Acharya and joint secretary Sidhu were present.
