Mangalore, Nov 9: Some elements are engaged in disturbing the peace and harmony in the society. All educated people should join to fight against these elements which are a danger to the fraternity and unity of the nation, said Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangalore.

Speaking at the valedictory of the diamond jubilee of Bethany Education Society on Sunday November 9, he said that the church has taken up the responsibility of integral development of the human being, and education is essential for this reason, he opined.

Jesus Christ came to earth to transform human beings. Msgr Mascarenhas, founder of the Bethany congregation, has prepared the ground for the transformation of the entire society, and the Bethany sisters have carried forward this mission, added the Bishop.

He also released the souvenir brought out to mark the diamond jubilee of Bethany Educational Society.

Dr Mahesh Joshy, director, Doordarshan Bangalore, was the chief guest of the occasion. Sr Jyothi, superior general, Bethany congregation, presided over the function. Sr Joy presented the report and Sr Crystella introduced the guests.

Great indeed are the works of the Lord. One man's vision supported by the four courageous, brave and faithful persons sowed the seed of education sixty years ago! The small endeavour has grown into a mighty giant spread all over India. Mostly venturing into the remote rural areas. Today those so called remote areas have become hub of activity and centre of development. Long live Bethany! Hats off to Sr. Jyoti and all the Bethany Sisters.

The Bishop is right. But there will be no solution to this problem unless those who are instigating, fomenting, supporting and protecting the perpetrators of anti-social activities change their thinking and call for a halt to such activities. Here, the role of the educated people from among the same community as that of the perpetrators will have the greatest influence.

Congratulations to you dear Sr.Jyothi and all the Bethany Sisters, for the wonderful celebration of the diamond jubilee of Bethany Education Society. “You are the light of the world …let your light shine before others,so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven”-Mt,5:14… You are really witnessing our Lord Jesus Christ, by showing your care and concern towards the needy. May God bless you all. It is nice to encourage the talents of young children, besides also give them God's protection through the 'faith-formation', this is an urgent need of our time. All the best to you, may St.Pauls words be true in your lives"As God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, cloth yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another...."Col,3:12-13.With prayers and God's blessings,-Fr.MaxCapuchin.
