Goa: Minor Rape - German Mother Withdraws Complaint

Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network- Goa

Panaji, No 9: In a sad end to the entire German minor rape case, the mother today wrote to Calangute police seeking to withdraw her complaint as she was frustrated with the investigation.

The sensational rape case involving 14 year old minor german girl had Goa Education Minister Atanasio Monserratte's son, Rohit as the accuse. The mother had also complained against public works department minister's nephew Warren for sexually exploiting her daughter.

"The mother has written letter to Calangute police today stating that she intends to withdraw the complaint as she was frustrated with the investigation," her lawyer Aires Rodrigues confirmed.

He said that the mother was being targeted by police by initiating false inquiries of her properties and her activities in Goa.

The mother, however, refused to talk on the issue as she offered no comment when contacted by Daijiworld.com correspondent.

Rohit, a 21 year old MBA student, is in the police custody owing to the complaint of rape filed against him by German mother on October 2. The complaint which went unnoticed till October 10 was turned into FIR on October 14 following statement of the mother.

The girl was reluctant to give the statement or get herself medically examined in this case till November one when she broke her silence before the magistrate.

The girl apparently in her statement had claimed that Rohit raped her in his car. The medical examination conducted on her also confirmed that the girl had sexual intercourse.

The 21 year old Monserratte surrendered before police on November 4 and subsequently was arrested. He remains in police custody now as his bail application would be heard tomorrow by Goa Children's court.

The mother had also accused goa public works department minister's nephew Warren of sexually exploiting her daughter. But during the investigation Warren's involvement was not mentioned.

Today's development attains significance as Rohit's bail would be taken up tomorrow before Goa Children's court.

Dear Shantanu, if u have lived in UK, then u might have heard or aware about the problems which Hindu girls have faced in 2007. Do u know the problems faced by boys of other community? I just wanted to stress a point that its not only other nationals who might have experienced problems at India, but also our Indians have faced the problems in other countries too.

I strongly oppose Ms. Sangeetha’s and all those who approve her comments. Dear Sangeeta, two wrongs cannot make one right. If those suffered Indians have not raised the issue, that’s because of their weak attitude and ignorance of our high commission in that country. This German mother is a caring mother and being suppressed by our political gurus.

Shrinath... I am very surprised by your comments, suggest you request the parties that suffered in the UK to contact Amnesty International. Preferable to route the complaint via some local Indian Organisation. Justice will be done. I beleive the UK law is fair. I have myself lived in the UK as a professional and I had no problem at all

I strongly agree with Sangeetha of Udupi-Dubai. What u have written is 108% correct, its true. Indians have experienced very badly in other countries and Indians didnt get Justice for the same. Why all other Indians are now showing their sympathy for others? Just because she is from other country? What about the poor Indians who have suffered alot in other countries? Have u ever heard about the problems which our Indians have faced in UK last year? If not, its as follows: Indian Hindu Girls are facing problems at UK Universities. The world’s premier detective agency Scotland Yard is not taking action. The Metropolitan Police have stepped in after Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said many Hindus felt neglected by Scotland Yard.

Some young students have been beaten up and forced to abandon their courses by extremists, Indian local leaders told a security conference. One Indian girl was beaten up in the street and others have been forced to leave university. The problem was most common in cities such as Birmingham, Leeds and Bradford, he added, while London universities had ‘at least two or three cases’ each. This problem was at Brunel University in West London, Bedfordshire University, Sheffield Hallam University and Manchester Metropolitan University. Now, what other readers says for this? Is this published in any of the Indian Newspapers?

Dear Minister may be you can show your power on earth, but what will you say to the one and only watching all of us from above. You can save a criminal (your son) only on earth. Have you ever imagined anything beyond earth? Please come to your senses Mr. Minister.

It does show how difficult to fight criminal cases against our politicians by general public. The mother of the rape-victim must have experienced numerous hurdles on her way to bring the culprit to justice and finally given up when she felt that she could not fight it anymore. It is a sad scenario of our judicial system which is corrupt because of corrupt politicians. The politicians and their kith & kin go scotfree in India even with serious crimes such as rape, murder, robbery, etc. That's India where the law is for the public and not for the law-makers, who don't hesitate to break them.

It looks like eyewash (to view in different angle). Immediately after minister's son is arrested, case is withdrawn. It looks like out of court settlement for HUGE SUM OF MONEY...These politicians can stoop to any level..

When rape has been alleged over a minor and subsequent medical report confirming the same( sex with a minor is rape), I think even if the mother withdraws the case, the court can continue the case as the rights of an individual remain violated. It is the daughter who is violated and its not upto the mother to end the case but upto the judge- but again this will take place if our Judiciary will raise upto the level in owning up its duty to uphold the law and protect the rights of minors. It will be interesting to see !!
