Bengaluru: No more sarees for policewomen, to wear khaki pant-shirt uniform

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Oct 21: While saree becomes a hurdle for policewomen to react faster to crime, the Karnataka police force has decided to ditch the traditional wear and instead adopt the khaki uniforms consisting of pants, shirts along with belt and boots for women.

The order was issued by Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Neelamani N Raju, after holding talks with senior police officers including women police personnel.

While reviewing the uniform system, concerns were raised that women police personnel donning sarees found it difficult to chase criminals, especially chain snatchers and also react quickly to emergency security situations.

It was also decided, that all police women portray a professional look. Hence, the new rule mandates that all police women wear police khaki pants and shirt with belt. Hair has to be tied neatly in a bun covered with net or tied down with a black colour hairpin or hair band. No flowers, makeup and hair colour is allowed, except for natural dye for graying hair.

Earrings, if worn, must be small in size with no dangling parts. Bindi must be small. Only one thin bangle made of metal is allowed.

The order will be enforced across all police stations in the state. While cases on non-compliance will be dealt with strictly, sarees will be permitted on special occasions and relaxation will be given for pregnant women, said a senior officer from the City Police Commissionerate.

Wearing pants and shirts is not the problem..when emergency arises quickly wants to command the team. Don't sit long time at resting place.

While I appreciate the decision, I would like to see the day, when size and weight of cops also be brought under control, by denying promotion, holding back wages etc., so that pot belly cops will be a thing of the past.

Full or half pants are good for cops, where one has to ride a motorcycle on duty.

    Jai Hind!!!!

It took so long for common sense to prevail. Its not anti-national to wear pant-shirt, even though saree is national dress. Good move. Look smart and act tough.

The dress should be a little loose than body fit. This could be comfortable while in action. While chasing somebody, you shouldn't have two minds whether to take a bigger leap or not.
Frankly, whenever I see DIG Roopa, I feel he dress could have been a bit loose! No offence.

Good idea by DG & IGP Neelamani N. Raju. It is the right choice for policewomen to wear khaki pant-shirt as uniform instead sarees. Now they will feel more comfortable in their jobs.

Good Move from Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Neelamani N Raju.
Also reduce the age limit to 40 or fix 18 year service in police for both men & women. Because its gives the chance to youngsters to serve country in Police department. Also after 40-45 age, physic will not be allow to serve in police department. Even bribery will come to control & culprits will be have fear of Law & Order by young polices.

@Parbu kudla ,when physic doesnt allow then something should be done against it.Instead of simply sitting or only standing, they should make them selves fit everyday by some fitness programm for the police.Do our police have it or left to themselves? One sees it .many of them have larger belly . someof them cant even walk properly, leave alone running behind theives.Otherwise I find it is a very good uniform. sees very cute.better than sari.It brings too respect from alone.A change I really say noble.
