Mangaluru, Oct 29: Yodelling King Melwyn Peris presented his ‘Sentimental Nite’ with quality-filled melodious songs accompanied by mind-blowing music and dances here at Father Muller Convention Centre on Sunday, October 28.

Father Muller Charitable Institutes was the organizer of the Nite, which was dedicated to the noble cause of helping cancer patients who are in need of financial aid. The income over expenditure of the nite, Rs 40 lac, was presented in the form of cheque by Melwyn Peris to Father Muller Oncology Centre for their ‘Cansurvive Fund’ initiated to help the cancer patients.

During the stage programme held before the musical nite began, Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, Bishop of Mangaluru, lauded the efforts of Father Muller Charitable Institutes and Melvyn Peris for holding the event for a special cause. “There is no religion on earth without compassion and mercy. Compassion has two faces. First one is forgiveness and second one is sympathy. Those who show sympathy or mercy to the patients, poor and needy, are true followers of the religion called humanity. Jesus also gave many examples on kind heartedness in his teachings. The parable of Good Samaritan, mentioned in Bible is one of the best examples of it,”

“Governments and judiciary in India have encouraged humanitarian activities. Recently Good Samaritan law came into effect which protects the people with compassion during accidents. There are many nongovernmental organizations which are working with the motto of compassion. Melwyn Peris is also living with the heart of compassion and mercy. Today’s sentimental nite is one of the best examples of such things. Many generous people also have joined him by supporting with sponsorship and offering other help. I believe that there is a divine design behind this. I wish all the best to all the artistes and organizers of this event. There is no doubt that this event will bring new ray of hope in many cancer patients,” Bishop added.

In his welcome speech Fr Richard Coelho, director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions said “Mangaluru is known for music and many legendary singers and musicians were born here. Now also the trend continues. Everyone loves music because it gives a happiness and relaxation,”

“We all know cancer is deadly decease. Nowadays the number of cancer patients is increasing. If we fail to give treatment in first stage it is difficult to save cancer patient from the death. Understanding this, the doctors of Father Muller’s came forward with the idea of a fund for needy cancer patients. At the same time Melwyn Peris also came to me and elaborated his idea of a sentimental nite for a cause. Today it has become a reality .Melwyn has done a great work to arrange this nite and collect the sponsorship. I am thanking him and his team for their support towards the Cansurvive Fund. I also thank all who have gathered here with compassion with empathy,” he added.
