Panaji: Authorities Yet to Confirm Alleged Rape of Goan Maid in Kuwait

Panaji, Nov 15: Goan authorities are keeping a tab on the alleged incident of rape on a maid in the Kuwait.

The incident which was reported through section of Gulf media is yet to be confirmed by Goa's Non-Resident Indian (NRI) commissioner's office.

"We have written to the Indian consulate to get back to us with the details of the case and its update. We will get it on Monday or Tuesday," Ulhas Kamat, Director, Goa NRI Cell, said on Saturday November 15.

He said that nobody has complained to the NRI cell about the incident. "Usually when such incident happen, their Goan relatives rush to our office with the complaint or plea to help. But in this case, no one has come," Kamat said.

A section of Gulf media carried a story about a 27-year-old Goan maid raped by a 13-year-old Arab boy in Kuwait. The boy, according to the report in the newspaper, is a son of her sponsor.

The maid, reportedly, has taken shelter in Indian Embassy in Kuwait. She was employed in Kuwaiti household in Surra.

"We are yet to confirm anything in this case. Friday embassy is closed so our communication will reach to them only on Sunday. We will get the information by Monday or Tuesday," Kamat reiterated.

Goa has lacs of its citizens working abroad especially in the Gulf countries in various skilled and non-killed jobs. The state on the western coast along with Kerala is amongst the states, which has large number of people working abroad.
