Dubai, Nov 16: "A full-fledged Passport Office is necessary for the people of Mangalore and this is your right demand" said visiting Overseas Indian Affairs minister Vayalar Ravi recently at Florida Hotel Dubai while replying to the demand made by Karnataka Sangha Sharjah president Prabhakar Ambalthere when he met the Minister with his delegates.

The minister promised that he will immediately arrange to meet this long-pending demand and would meet, discuss the same with Indian foreign minister Pranab Mukerji and deputy foreign minister E Ahmed. The Karnataka Sangha Sharjah delegation comprised of Shobha Ambalthere, general secretary Nithyanand Bhandary and treasurer Yadav Kotian along with president Prabhakar Ambalthere.

The minister was in city to witness 'Pravasi Diwas' programme organized by Sharjah Indian Association wherein he was invited as a chief guest.

Prabhakar Ambalthere has recently opened up his mission vision called 'Ambalthere Vision' which not only brings free entertainment to the people of Karnataka living in U A E but also promises to bridge the gap between the NRIs and ministers of India, so that the voice of the former reaches the latter.

Earlier many delegations have voiced their concern to this end. 'Social Struggle for Empowerment', one of these organizations met minister of state in the ministry of foreign affairs Anand Sharma recently at New Delhi. He too raised the hopes and expectations of the citizens of Mangalore and gave assurance to start a full-fledged passport office in Mangalore. "As Mangalore meets all the pre-requisites for setting up of a full-fledged passport office there, it would not be difficult for us to meet this request," he remarked.

At present Mangalore has a Passport Application Centre which only collects the passport applications and it takes months together to get the passport in hand.  It is essential to have or upgrade the passport applications collection centre into a full-fledged passport office, stressed Prabhakar Ambalthere to the minister. Though the city complies with the entire eligibility criterion for having the passport office, the ministry has not yet sanctioned the same to the city as yet. The delegation pointed out that even the parliamentary standing committee has already recommended for the opening of a new passport office in Mangalore.

But as of now not even a single passport office is functional in coastal Karnataka as against four passport offices each in neighboring Kerala and Tamil Nadu.  As promised the minister, if the office if opened, it can cater not only to the needs of  Mangaloreans but also to the needs of people living in the neighboring districts like Uttara Kannada, Kodagu and Shimoga too.  "We will have to wait and watch but at the same time a real follow-up by all the associations to this extent will put immense weight on the issue," said Prabhakar Ambalthere.

Many sons of soil from Mangalore  were in the union cabinet in 1980's & 90's. Janardhan Poojari, Oscar Fernandes and Dhananjaya Kumar (foreign minsiter) , to name a few. But nothing was done by them.  We would appreciate if Vayalar Ravi could  do something for a full fledged Passport office in Mangalore .Isn't it ironic that he should be a native of Kerala !

Our ex.MP's/Ministers those who were in power for years did nothing for our place. Basic things like Road is not built properly. Other states are having very good roads. After, Rainy season it is horrible every where. Its sometime pain to see our local people are using that condition road when I go for vacation. For example - Kalyanpur - Brahmavar road. There is nothing in road, except dust. Mangalore is one of the prominent city, so it should have all the offices. Why our prople has to go to Delhi / Bangalore / Mumbai / Chennai.

Our heroes are good in holding big position / helping big guns to make more money and enjoy their life. We DK/Udupi Dist. people are very soft when they want some changes. Everybody is busy in their own world for their daily bread and butter. We can not blame also or we will be in roads. Its time for young blood. For that also Oldies will not allow so easily. I suggest, someone should fight election Indipendently ( no party ) and people should elect him. He should work along with whoever form the govt for development of our native place. Can it happen ?

Vylar Ravi union minister assures a full pledged Passport Office in Mangalore.it is a good news. Oscar and Moily are union ministers( or equivalent)from mangalore and very close to Congress High Command, but their contribution to the development of mangalore is deffinitely questionable. they are not agressively seeking what the Keralite or Tamilian Union Ministers seek for thier state.that includes Margaret alva and sadanand gowda. when loksabha election comes then we mangaloreans should take their assurances over a stamp paper. and then only we should elect them. we Karnataka people specially mangaloreans are neglected lot. the four laning of highways (speed ways),un interupted quality electrcity from central grid, Fast trains to bangalore, mumbai, chennai or delhi, a decent passport office, a cargo terminal at airport, a full pledged container terminal at NMPT,a decent railway station.all will be dream. i strongly feel we should dump our old lethargic political leaders and opt for thr the young dyanamic generation. will it be also a dream

Dear Union Minister, Mr. Vayalar Ravi, I appreciate your talk. We do not need assurances but action immediately so that we believe that you walk as per your talk. Where will you house the office in Mangalore which is also should be pre-planned.
