Mangalore, Nov 22: Eight members of the Sisters of Charity congregation made their final commitment of poverty, obedience and chastity, during the solemn Eucharistic celebration held at 10.30 am on Friday November 21, at the Guardian Angels Church, Angelore.
Sr Ireen Jane D’Souza, provincial superior of the congregation of Sisters of Charity, received their final commitment in the name of God.
Jyoti Kripa Anthony, Hazel Cardoza, Josline Crasta, Sharon Crasta, Supritha Crasta, Dulcine D’Souza, Noeline D’Souza and Kanika Mary Moses, are the eight sisters. Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore was the main celebrant of the Eucharistic celebration. Fr Francis Serrao, rector, St Aloysius College, delivered the homily on the occasion.
The Sisters of Charity congregation founded in Italy during 1832 has a global presence and they render their services in the fields of education, health, social-pastoral work, and care of the destitute. Prashant Nivas Jeppu, Olavinahalli, and Nellyady, in Uppinangady are the homes for the destitute, the mentally-challenged, and cured leprosy patients seeking rehabilitation. At present they take care of AIDS patients too.
