Mangalore: Age No Barrier to an Awe-Inspiring Performance for Tanvi Rao

Mangalore, Nov 23: The ‘Ranga Pravesham’ ceremony of Bharatnatyam dancer B H Tanvi Rao was held at the Town Hall, on Saturday November 22 in front of a jam packed audience. Ten-and-a-half-year-old Tanvi gave a spectacular performance.
Vinay Hegde, president, Nitte Education Trust, presided over the function. In his speech, he said that Tanvi is an extraordinary talent and said that she had the potential to be one of the finest bharatnatyam dancers in the country.
‘Karnataka Kala Thilaka’ Ullal Mohan Kumar of Natyanikethana, Kotekar, who inaugurated the function, was also full of praise of Tanvi. Chief guest of the function H S Hassan, writer and social worker, blessed Tanvi and said ‘Natasarvabhouma’ was evident in Tanvi’s dances.
Na Da Shetty, senior artist and writer, Dr Na D’Souza, writer and national award winner, and Dr Aerya Laxminarayana Alva, winner of the Rajyotsav Prashasti for literature and folklore, were also present.
Rakeshnath, and Reema Rakeshnath, from Bollywood, were present and blessed Tanvi on the occasion. ‘She is no more a little wonder. She is a very big wonder’, said Reema Rakeshnath about Tanvi in her speech. As part of the ‘guruvandana’ ceremony Tanvi paid her respects to her dance teachers Vidushi Geetha Saralaya, Vidushi Rashmi Saralaya, and her Carnatic classical music teacher K V Raman.
Hariprasad Rao and Swarna Gowri Rao, parents of Tanvi, and B N G K Rao and Leelavathi Rao, grand parents of Tanvi, were present on the dais. An anthology of Kannada poems ‘Nallege’ by B N G K Rao, was also released on the occasion.
K V Raman on vocals, Kalashree M Hanumantharaju Mysore on ‘mridangam’ and ‘tabla’, Kalashree Manju Mysore on the violin, as well as Vidushi Geetha Saralaya and Vidushi Rashmi Saralaya on ‘Nattuvangam’, provided support for Tanvi’s performance.
Tanvi began learning bharatanatyam at the tender age of four and a half. At the age of five, she won state and national-level dance competitions. She was also among the top four contestants in ‘Prachanda Putani’, a talent show organized by Zee Kannada in October 2007.
