The 'Second Kudla Kalavali Kalamela-2008', a two-day art fair was inaugurated at Kadri Park here on Saturday November 29. The event was organized by Dakshina Kannada district artists and S S Creation.
 
Around two hundred artists  participated on the occasion, presenting over 3,500 artistic pieces. Various forms of art like geometrical drawings, portraits, nature drawings, collages, wall paintings, caricatures, photographs, abstract drawings, sand sculpture and handicraft articles were on display at the exhibition gallery.
 


Speaking after inaugurating the Kalamela, district in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar assured financial assistance from the government for such programmes in the district. Praising the artists for organizing art fair for the second time he said the exhibition is genuinely a  great visual treat.
 
Meanwhile, Camlin Art Foundation Award winners Anand Bedral, Santhosh Andrade, Nagaprasad KR, Githesh Kumar and M Vishwas were felicitated.
 
MLA Yogish Bhat, former president of Kannada Sahithya Parisat Harikrishna Punaroor, Ganesh Rao, president of Karavali Group of Colleges, Anupama ST, managing trustee, Gurukula Public School, Koteshwar were the chief guests.
 
About 500 students participated in the 'Chittha-Chithra' drawing competition for primary school students as part of the Kalamela. Syed Asif Ali, lecturer, Mahalasa Chithrakala School demonstrated spot paintings to the visitors. Later 'Bava Ninada' and cultural programmes were also held.
 
Jagadish Ammunje, president of Kalamela, Karunakara MH, director, SS Creations, NS Pathar, convener, Kalamela, AK Zubair Kudla were present on the occasion.
