Bengaluru: BJP complains about improper drought relief work - forms study teams

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Nov 30: BJP feels that the government has not undertaken drought relief works in drought-hit taluks of Karnataka properly. As it feels that the people in these taluks are suffering because of the government's failure on his front, it has formed five teams to study the state of affairs relating to drought management in the affected taluks between December 3 and 5. Based on the reports prepared by these teams, the party will draw up action plan to fight for drought relief measures.

BJP state president Yeddyurappa

This decision was taken at the parliamentary party meeting of BJP and core committee meeting organized in the state office of BJP on Thursday November 29. The meeting also decided to depute a separate team to Kodagu which had faced one of the worst nightmares because of excessive rain and floods, for undertaking study tour and submitting a report.

Leader of the opposition in the state assembly and state BJP president, B S Yeddyurappa, speaking after the meeting, stated that the five teams to be formed by the party will try to see for itself the drought management, condition of farmers and the problems they are currently facing. He also stated that over one lac farmers will come together near Suvarna Soudha at Belagavi at 1 pm on December 10. This rally is aimed at holding protest against the government's apathy in addressing their problems.

Yeddyurappa said that the party will fight against the failures of the government both inside the legislature and outside. He said that the meeting also discussed about raising the problems of farmers in the house and find a solution for their problems. Discussions also centered on relief measures needed to be undertaken to mitigate problems faced by farmers and also to throw light on the miserable performance of the government on this front.

He pointed out that Sudha Murthy, chairperson of Infosys Foundation, had extended assistance of Rs 25 crore for undertaking relief measures in flood-hit Kodagu district. "As the government failed to undertake any relief measures, she has withdrawn this assistance and decided that the foundation itself will undertake relief works in that district. This is a tight slap on the face of the government. This is an example for the state government's failure and the fact that state administration machinery has collapsed," he claimed.

BJP state general secretary and MLA, Aravind Limbavali, union minister, Ramesh Jigajinagi, former chief minister, Jagadish Shettar, former deputy chief minister, K S Eshwarappa, R Ashok and Kota Srinivas Poojary will be providing leadership to the teams, he stated. A team comprising union minister, D V Sadananda Gowda, MPs, Prahlad Joshi, Nalin Kumar Kateel and Pratap Simha, will tour Kodagu to survey relief measures undertaken by the government there. The team will also check whether the allegation about central funds not being put to use properly by the state government is true, Yeddyurappa stated.
