Chamarajanagar: Prasadam mixed with poison which caused 15 deaths - kingpin Swamiji arrested

Daijiworld Media Network - Chamarajanagar (SP)

Chamarajanagar, Dec 20: The incident in which devotees were served with rice bhath mixed with poisonous substance by way of Prasadam, which has caused death of 15 so far and hospitalization of about a hundred people, is heading to logical conclusion.

On Wednesday December 19, the police arrested four persons accused of involvement with this dastardly act. President of Maramma temple trust, Sulvadi in Kollegal taluk in the district, who also happens to be the junior Swamiji of Salur Math at Mahadeshwara Hills, identified as Immadi Mahadeva Swamy, the police investigation so far reveals, is the kingpin of the entire episode.

In addition to Immadi Mahadeva Swamy (52), Ambika (35) from Martalli village, trust manager, Martalli Madesh (46) who also happens to be the husband of Ambika, and temple priest, Doddayya Tambadi (35) were arrested. On being produced in the presence of the district judge, they were remanded to police custody till December 22.

South zone inspector general of police, Sharath Chandra, who addressed a press conference on Wednesday evening, explained that a foundation stone laying ceremony had been held on December 14 for the construction of main tower. The temple trust had arranged to supply rice bath to the visiting devotees. 15 persons died and over a hundred devotees took ill after consuming this Prasadam. Relating to this heinous crime, a case was registered in Ramapura police station against the temple trust and cooks, he stated.

Trust president, Immadi Mahadeva Swamy, had differences with other trustees, Neelakanta Shivachari, Shashibimba, Chinnappi etc on some financial transactions.   Overlooking objections by the Swamy, the temple trust was registered, as a result of which the junior Swamiji lost control over finances. This gave rise to enmity between two groups, one headed by the junior Swamiji, and the other by Chinnappi.

There were differences over the construction of the main tower too. Immadi Mahadeva Swamy, who grew angry over decisions being taken against his wishes, wanted to fix his enemies in criminal case by using poison, Sharath Chandra said.

Ambika collected two bottles of monocrotophos, a poisonous insecticide, from a relative working in the department of agriculture, by falsely claiming that plants in her house garden are affected by some disease.   She called priest of the temple, Doddayya Tambadi, who belonged to her faction, and advised him to mix this poisonous substance in rice bhath. She also told him that her husband would be helping him in this job. On December 14, when cooks were away, they had mixed poison to the rice bhath.

When some devotees expressed suspicion about the smelly rice bhath, Madesh reportedly asked them to consume it, clarifying that Borneo camphor had been added to the food as flavour. During the investigation, the police came to know that the office bearers of the trust had consumed food prepared at their homes.

The police officer said that the name of the agricultural official involved cannot be revealed at this stage as there is perception of danger to his life.

Very ashaming and sad incident.Cant believe a swamiji,a religious man joined in this heinous act.Now these religious people are mixing in politic, money making ,instead of concentrating on religion, and last on murder, and sex scandals.do people in future respect a religious head any more? But my one question is ,why did these monstors poisoned innocent temple visitors.?They self should have consumed first.Thatswhy I say now,if any food left back is there please make them too take ,when needed by force. They are not fit to live in this world any more.No need of any prison.when no more food rest is there ,bring some conji ,and mix some of its origin and or clean the bottle and mix it.they will certainly get highest position in hell.

You can expect all sorts of permutation/combination inside as the greed of money has taken over their conscience!

Authorities should immediately seal & start searching the premises as, definitely, more skeletons will tumble out!!

Pesticide not that long ago was also talk of the town involving another Swamiji, who eventually turned out to subject himself to the will of the God naturally. Nevertheless Pesticide seems to be the favorite tool for divine intervention. It is a pity that this time around, devotees were targeted. All the three should be tried for multiple murders done willfully and should be meted with punishment reserved for the rarest of the rarest crimes.

The punishment verdict will take another 35 years in this case. Only way is ...army should take over the country for another 10 years and punish all the criminals, politicians and draft a new strong constitution where political leaders should not have any control on Police, CBI and other investigating authorities.

A priest and a swamiji both are respected by people, if them commit rape or murder, should be given double the punishment for the crime as well as regrading followers faith ....

Please note this point... Nobody is forgiving Franco. In fact we would all stand for defrocking him for the heinous crime he has committed.

It is only a certain few people of majority community who always bring in crimes committed by minorities religion people, when their own crimes surface. I was trying to point out that crimes can be committed by anybody whichever caste creed or religion.

    Mr. Rajesh...

I just knew that you would spew venom against minority communities. That is why I have made a comment at the top of this column that you target people of minority community. Why you people are so confused? In a certain article on Tipu Jayanthi in the past, you comment that Tipu destroyed temples. Now you say that these above goons match Tipu rule.

Are you telling that Tipu was a Temple trustee too apart from being a cruel tyrant. Now I am confused. My friends crimes can be committed by anybody regardless of caste creed or religion. All human being are a mix of good and bad.
