Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Dec 22: Deputy commissioner of the district, Priyanka Mary Francis, asked the officials to take abundant precautions during preparation of Prasadam and its distribution. She also instructed food safety officials to undertake workshops for the heads of temple managing committees to impart specific instructions and information to them.

She was speaking after presiding the district level food safety and quality advisory committee and district anti tobacco cell meeting here on Friday December 21.

"It is mandatory to have CCTV cameras in kitchens involved with preparation of food including Akshara Dasoha midday meal programme. Care should be taken not to allow unauthorized persons into these rooms. Food should be distributed only after making sure that the preparation is fit for consumption," she stated. She also advised food safety officials to regularly visit midday meal kitchens and ensure that the quality of items used is good. Godowns, where food items are kept , should be inspected to check safety aspects and quality and reports thereof should be submitted, she added.

She asked people transporting fish to Goa to invariably obtain certificates from food safety officials.

District heath and family welfare officer, Dr Rohini, and other officials were present.

    People,

Best and least expensive method is feed Jossey Sir Prasadam half an hour before its distributed to the public...

If Jossey Sir does not start vomiting...then it should be safe to the public...

Only problem here...if he eats any Veg food in the first place,,,

No CCTV,,,no monitoring...Jossey Sir is THE solution to this problem...

    ...Tak...Takk...

Looks like this DC means business. The check on mid day meals should be strictly followed, since there are so many adverse reports. The cameras in public kitchens are a need of the hour.

Cameras can be turned off or can be made non functional by some tricks.. Best thing is to make the cooks/chefs to eat the prasadam/food prepared by them before serving the devotees/children. If they are OK then let them feed others.

There was a time when temple prasadam was served first to temple priests and office bearers , before serving to common devotees. This has been changed as it was considered as a discriminatory step based on caste.
I think we should revert to old system where prasadam will be served first to temple priests and office bearers including the cooks.

In the recent incident the daughter of the cook died due to poisoned prasadam. In pharmaceutical companies ans cancer hospitals, they have rabbits (we call guinea pigs) for testing the toxicology of drugs. They can be used. But, whether rabbits eat prasadm, I do not know. Also, a trained veterinary assistant is needed.
