Mangalore, Dec 16: The issue was about seven and a half rupees. But the police and fire department personnel had to spend energy worth thousands of rupees to resolve it.

It all began with a mentally-challenged boy climbing a giant tree near the KSRTC bus stand on Tuesday December 16. The boy started demanding ‘saade saath’ (seven and a half) rupees in Hindi. A big crowd gathered under the tree and offered him sweets and money. Even the police and fire department personnel rushed to the spot. Unfortunately, the boy was scared on seeing the huge crowd under the tree and refused to come down.

The firemen fixed a long ladder to the tree. Even then, the boy refused to come down. Finally, one of the firemen climbed the tree, tied him with a rope, and pushed him down. Though he stubbornly held on to the ladder, he finally fell down after cutting the rope which was tied to him. The ‘sade saath’ drama came into an end within an hour. But it did prove an entertaining pastime to the public for some time.

"SAFETY FIRST" Lifting, hoisting equipments and related accessories should be tested and re-certified periodically by the third party- This is the International law. Officially nobody use coco rope or any other unsafe for the above purpose. Our Government shoud have to provide good facilities to such departments and all such departments shoul liable for unsafe accidents!Safety belts, hooks and wire ropes used under such case. Thanks to police / firemen and my lovely Daijiworld.

It is not entertainment and would not have been entertainment if the boy had ended his life when he fell down. Did anybody made an attempt to look into matter and see why the boy is metally retarded? If this child is a member of high class family, the rope breaking matter would have climbed the court steps. Please look into the boy, you can see his ribs without proper food. But, in the end I can say, Police and Firemen saved him climbing that tree was not at all easy. Thanks to you all and God bless

Its a shame for the people to have fun for like this incidence, in Eupope and America they care for animals also, and this is a human being, The fireman are not well trained in such incidence.Anyway it was a good thought to help/save this boy. Cheers Dennis

I was just wondering how a small kid like him can cut a rope? This raises serious question on the part of firemen and on the government if they cannot even provide strong rope or for that matter the basic equipments. What if the kid sustanined serious injuries? The government should take serious measures and provide all the necessray facilities and equipment and be ready for actions when required.

Normally in India nobody cares to give any undue attention to these acts leave alone think of rescueing them. Police and the firemen may be badly trained for such rescue acts, but the important thing is, it might have been amusing or fun for others to watch, but it definetly showed the human side of the Police- firemen and the helping nature of the people as well, to rescue a helpless person.

Looks like everything in this world amuses people around Mangalore...There was no need to make such a ruckus with that Mentally challenged child...People find fun even with the depreived child's mental state. I wonder, how many of those people thought of rehabilitating that boy??? I am sure, none...After the fun, everyone went away with thier chores.
