Mangaluru: Nanthoor Circle turns accident zone with uncleared tree debris

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Dec 23: Many trees were axed in Mangaluru’s prime locations to take up road development and widening work. However, the branches of trees axed near Nanthoor bus stand are still not cleared.

The debris has become a hurdle to pedestrians and two wheeler riders, obstructing smooth traffic flow. The trees were axed nearly two weeks ago and still the concerned officials have not cleared the branches, in spite of being aware of the congestion at the circle.

Localities have complained that Nanthoor circle which is already an accident prone zone has become even more dangerous with the tree waste. Many two-wheeler riders have met with minor accidents, as they could not see the branches lying on the road, in the night. They are now pleading concerned officials to clear the road on priority, before a major mishap strikes.

Even the bus stop has to be demolished. New bus stop for buses plying towards Padua has been erected, but there is none for the buses plying towards Bikarnakatta. This half hearted work by the NHAI has rendered the newly built bus stop useless. Buses going on both sides pick passengers at the old bus stop, continuing the chaos at Nanthoor. And both MCC and NHAI don't give a damn.

If the tree is valuable, then they take it very fast because they get good rate for that. If the debris are useless then it will lay their for months to gather.

It is always the case in Mangaluru. The word "finishing touch" is always missing in the project completion work. Always left incomplete.
Be it Nanthoor Circle development, Bendur new Bus stop, footpaths on Kadri temple road, footpaths at SCS hospital road or anywhere else the situation is same, which needs to be changed to make Mangaluru as Smart City.

He is at home. I too have had minor injury as I was going to take an auto just two days back. On enquiry, no one knows from where those huge trees are brought and why they dumped over there just in front of the bus stand ?
No trees were there at nanthoor junction to axe. Secondly, that area is so dark after sunset. I really pity for those who wait there for the buses.
No basic facilities, but taxes must pay on time otherwise fine.
