Mangalore: Pilikula Draped in Colours as Spectacular Flower Show Begins

Mangalore, Dec 20:
A 16-day exhibition of flowers, fruits and medicinal plants, organized by the Dakshina Kannada District Karavali Utsav Committee and Pilikula Nisarghadhama Society was inaugurated at Pilikula Nisargadhama’s Arboretum here on Friday December 19.
 
Speaking after inaugurating the show, BP Kaniram, secretary, Department of Horticulture, Bangalore said that government has been showing interest in horticulture. State has total of 1 crore acres of land and 12 per cent of land being used for horticulture.

Adding that the nature of Dakshina Kannada district itself is a boon for horticulture, he asked to make it profitable venture.
 
At the flower exhibition, about 10,000 plants are on display, including decorative flowers and plants, medicinal plants, vegetable plants, rare Western Ghats flora, besides stalls for garden implements and equipment.
 
JR Lobo, executive director, Pilikula Nisarghadhama, ZP vice-president Jayashree Kodandoor, member Vinod Mada, deputy director of Horticulture department Hema, Dr KV Rao were present on the occasion.
