Bengaluru, December 29: A government employee who used selfies with political leaders to dupe unemployed youth has been arrested by the Central Crime Branch police, Bengaluru.

J Manjunath (35), a resident of RR Nagar, worked as the first division assistant of the animal husbandry department. He had clicked selfies with several political leaders such as chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, former chief minister Siddaramaiah, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi among others.

Manjunath misused these selfies to lure unemployed youth. He claimed he was the vice-president of the government workers’ union and showed the selfies to ‘prove his proximity’ with the political leaders. Manjunath collected lacs from the job aspirants and promised them government jobs.

The issue came to light after one of the victims cheated by Manjunath filed a complaint at Vidhana Soudha police.

The city police commissioner immediately transferred the case to CCB police as the issue was grave. After his arrest, investigations showed that Manjunath had cheated several people using the same modus operandi.

Earlier, another victim had registered a case at Seshadripuram police station but Manjunath had obtained bail. He has been remanded in judicial custody after being produced before the magistrate on Wednesday.
